Hey Guys,

It's been a while. It's been a bit crazy. I've picked up a few projects over the last 6 months and now that I have some down time, will encounter the first one. I had been searching for a decent 1614 at a good price and finally got one. Just my luck it was a left handed model. My thought was okay no pickguard, I can work with this. Re-did the nut and now it seems to have an intonation issue. Compared the pickup to right hand model 1619 CL and 1718 Elite and it appears to be indentical,

Am I missing something here, please any advice is more than welcome.

Thanks

John

You may need to pop off the tops of the saddles and reverse them.

Instead of messing with it, why don't you just sell it to someone like me, who has that particular disability?

Is it the 12 fret model? What year? What finish?

;)

Much better to sell it to a lefty and get a righty model. Ths saddle slot is at an angle so you need to plug it and rerout. Switching the saddles will help but it still won't play in tune.

That's what I was gonna say . .
You could probably sell a Lefty at a premium (at least enough to cover the cost of a comparable right-handed model).

Mikey,

If you had a Gov'mt job you could fit in quicker responses.

I'll just put myself in the "Time-out" corner anyway.

For Redemption Points: What is the root word (Latin?) for Guitar and Adamas?

Adamas is latin meaning a diamond in it's natural state of carbon.
or so I was always told.

Just let me know if you want to unload it...and I'll see if I can sell Bill some more pickups!! Otherwise, I'll have to find some legitimate means of raising the cash!!

Or, if you're interested, I have the 1124 (listed below) which is a righty version of your guitar with NYLON strings (same 1 7/8" nut); I cut a left-handed nut for it, but I have the original I could put back on...it's in very good to excellent condition (considering it was made in '75!), no issues; a couple of the typical finish cracks around the bridge, but it's solid as a rock! Original case.

I don't believe there's a root word in latin for guitar. If my memory serves me right, the Greeks had an instrument they called the kathara, and the Arabs, when they took over egypt and palestine picked up the instrument when they went to spain, calling it something like qitara, and then to spain where it became guitara and then to france to become guitare, and then to england to become guitar. The other ancestor of the guitar was the arabic ud (sp) which came to europe another way, I believe to italy via sicily, with the name changing from Al Ud to something like Lude to Lute when it made it's way to France. If this is wrong or if you heard it differently ...
So technically, the root of word guitar is greek.
