I'm looking for a nice acoustic amp for home use that has a few effects with it. I will be using it with my Ovation guitars. I noticed that several acoustic amps have piezo horns. What more do these give sound wise than the units without? This is for home use so I don't need a high powered unit, just something with a few effects to make my "O" all it can be! All opinions and insights are appreciated.
Thanks

standard paper cone speakers that you'll find in moderately-priced acoustic amps will cut off at around 10Khz or below. This is way below the high frequency response of an acoustic guitar. A piezo horn or HF compression driver helps reproduce the presence and sparkle of an acoustic.

Try an AER amp:

I use the "compact 60" with my Ovations at home as well as on stage. It has some effects (reverb, hall, chorus, flanger) and is the best sounding acoustic amp I could find. Not an cheap amp ... but great!

GenzBenz seems to get some pretty good reviews.

Ashdown Reso 1 or 2 are good or get an old Trace Elliot, 50 watt, or 35 or 25. The 100 might be a bit much for the house.

Got a Genz-Benz Shenandoah 85 and it does a great job. Use it on stage and we run vocals through the other channel in rehearsals.

My bandmate has a smaller one he plays his mandolin through and it gets great sound.

I agree with Paul - I've got a Genz-Benz 85 also and think it is REALLY great. I paid almost $500 for mine new a couple of years ago - here's one on eBay for a great price:

I have an Ultasound AG-50DS2. It has 2x8 speakers and 2x2 tweeters. 2 channels. 1 for the guitar and one for an xlr mic. If you want to sing through it, the tweeters are a must. Has Alesis effects.
It is pretty light, has direct out, effects loop, 1/4 plugin for extension cab. Mids swith and notch switch.
It gets good reviews with the guys I play with.

I've heard alot about the G-B, mostly all good. Cayman owns them so it's "in the family". Guess that should get the first call.
