Location: Oklahoma | Hi, I have a 1975/1976 Matrix 1142 I want to restore. Can anyone help me with information about parts, feasability, etc. The Matrix has an aluminum neck which poses a challenge I believe. Can it be refretted? I also need a new rosette, the laquered finish on the top is seriously cracked, the black finish on the fretboard and headstock is severely chipped and it needs a new bridge saddle. Can it be saved???? Thanks for any help/advice. . . |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | The necks were designed to be "disposable". Simple enough to bolt a new neck onto an old bowl. I don't think the idea caught on, or just wasn't that necessary, to begin with.
Anyrate, it would be pretty difficult to put the neck into a milling machine to make new fret "wires", and likely too costly. I suppose many folks relegate old Matrix models to dedicated slide rigs. I attempted to salvage a Matrix neck pretty worn out in the first position, with very limited improvement. If there was some rugged & durable compound to build the ruts & dents back up; that would be the "ticket".
Good luck, Sparky! |

Location: Oklahoma | I think the idea about using it for slide is the ticket. It looks good and "bluesy" in the condition its in anyway. "Thanks every bady!" |
