Joined: November 2004 Posts: 3 | Hello from South Florida. I have a question that hopefully you guys can help me out in. I've been GAS'ing for an Ovation for quite some time. Today I walked in to a local music store (not GC  ) and checked out a 2001 Collector's Edition. This guitar has been with them for 3 years, hanging on the wall, collecting dust. The guitar is gorgeous, with a flamed redwood top, it's stunning. Plays excellent with low action. The manager told me he would let it go for $1,000 with the case. My question to you guys is this... Is this a fair price for this guitar? It is "new", but it also has been on the wall for quite some time. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for your help. ELF

He is one of the two sponsors of the OFC, see Lost Art/Vintage Instruments on the left hand side of this screen. Would definitely be worth your effort.

Others on this board have a lot of good things to say about the guitar, especially soundwise. The big question is, do you really like it and does it make you want to play all day? If so, it's a pretty good deal. The list price on the guitar was $1899 including the case. You might be able to find a used one a little cheaper, but this one would come with the lifetime factory warranty, which is a nice thing to have. And like Tony suggested, check with Al. He'll steer you right.

Would the one I am looking at be considered new? NOS maybe? It has been there for 3 years... Would I still get the warranty??? I will ask them on Monday, they are an Ovation deqaler.

Check the guitar over closely for things like - battery corroded in it, dings, dents, etc etc - remember to check up at the headstock too. Three years can take its toll.

If it has been sitting there for three years gathering dust odds are in your favor he just might take it. But like everyone said check it out and then nmake a low ball offer. First price quote is not neccesarily what he is willing to sell it for. Play On! John L. Custom Legend 1779-USA Legend LX Balladeer LX Std. What I failed to mention is that he originaly offered it to me for $1200.00, I was able to bring him down to $1000.00. Now thinking about it, I'm going to try to shave off a little more ;) . But even if he doesn't go for it I think I'm still going to bite the bullet. When I get it, I'll post picts if you like. Thanks again, you guys have been a tremendus help. Hope you don't mind me sticking my head in here more often. :D ELF.

If you can't make the deal you're after, BUY FROM AL! In spite of everything else, Al is a gem! :D

Buying a new USA built Ovation, a collectors to boot, for a grand, with a full warranty, that rings your chimes, is cheap. Go for it. And post pics.
