Location: SoCal | It arrived today, excellent guitar, excellent condition. Doesn't have the bass of the 1997 Collector's - light, bright sound that I have found with the 4-string tenor guitars. Course, to Suzie it doesn't matter - it has palm trees :cool:
Card in the case is from Hilo Guitars & Ukuleles, Hilo, HI. Story that I have been told is that these were made specifically for a guitar store in Hawaii - not sure of the numbers made.
Now, she tells me she wants me to get a palm tree uke like Dave's or for me to convince him to sell it to me :eek:

Location: Phoenix AZ | Tony, Great looking guitar! Hey about the uke - EVERYTHING is negociable. At the very least we need to get together and let momma and baby play together. Actually the uke may be expendable. I've got a new project to finance. I got the 000-18 today and it just blows the '97 Parlor away by so much that it beings tears to my eyes. No disrespect the '97 it's a great little guitar and by far Ovations best ever Collector, but it's in a different league. So I have this idea to convert the '97 to a Baritone Uke. Can you dig that? Stay tuned. |

Location: SoCal | Dave, I'm all ears...actually my '97 parlor has no ears but that's another story and she looks great and plays well as she is. Now that Suzie has her koa parlor, may put the '97 up for trade or sale. As you know, I have the big sister (FD-14).
Congrats on the 000-18. If the Post Office ever finds the SMT that I sent to Jon, I will get his Larrivee in trade. You would think that Priority Mail sent 9/11/04 would have gotten there by now. Insurance claim goes in 9/25, then will send him my SMT with OP-50 to complete the trade.
Sounds like a uke conversion of a '97 would classify as a "cello" uke. If barritone uke is tuned as a guitar, modifying it to a 4-string wouldn't add anything - in fact, you'd have same sound but lose bottom 2 strings (E&A). ??
Keep me in mind for the uke. |

Sorry to give you a hard time, but I learned the hard way. Have you seen my Ovation wall art? Those guitars got that way for one reason. I barely trust the government to deliver a post card, much less a guitar.
Anyway, hope your issues with the feds work out. Thank goodness for Al Gore's internet. As far as the '97 Uke, I'll try it first by installing Uke strings, both standard and then Octave D just to hear how it sounds. |

I was thinking of a little 'skull & crossbones' for a warning signal to replace that pitifully inadaquate little 'caution' sign. Anybody with half a brain would know the Jolly Roger, even me.

Location: SoCal | Bill, doesn't look like plywood to me...took the access panel off to check.
Very nice dark grain - looks like Koa wood on underside - don't see why they would have that nice of a wood on both sides of a piece of plywood; where sound holes cut, looks like solid wood. |

Location: Scotland | even mildly figured Koa is horribly expensive. The USA Koa-topped guitars were spruce laminated with Koa outer veneers. The Koa ukes are ply too. I'd be very surprised if this guitar had a solid Koa top. |

Location: SoCal | Paul, whatever it is on the underside - nice darker vertical grain. Seems strange that they would finish both sides. Placed a small drop of water on underside to simulate a finish and it is the darkness of the top and my Martin Koa.
Heck, I don't care...top could be painted on grain to simulate Koa as long as Suzie likes it.
Is possible, as this was a special order for a guitar store, that the top is solid or finished on both sides.
Only seen this one...it is the one that sold on eBay ? late last year. Has the OP-30. Not sure how old it is but in new condition. |

Yep, Paul's right, it's a panelmaster. A really nice looking & great playing panelmaster, but a panelmaster none the less. Guess what? I LOVE IT ANYWAY! If I want a big acoustic sound I play the 1612.
I have no idea how I ever got along with *one* guitar for so many years...
