I am newly back in the Ovation camp after several years of playing guitars from the 'dark side' (Taylor, etc.) I used to play Ovations exclusively a few years back (1861 Balladeer and 1655 12 string) but got away from them when I stopped gigging for a while. I have recently started to play out again and went looking for a good gig guitar. Stumbled across a very cool 1868T Elite (black) which met every need I had (great electronics, playability, reliable, great sound, etc.) The shop owner obviously didn't know what he had, as he told me the TOP and back were all Lyrachord! Sold me the guitar with case for $499, a super deal. Anyhow, I am once again an Ovation disciple. I actually found this site through the AG forum, ironically, and followed the ridiculous thread on Ovations there. Those guys should get out of their living rooms and try playing their guitars in a live setting. That's where Ovations have always been the king, at least for me. I appreciate all of the posts from folks here and have been trying to catch up on some of the older listings. This is a great site with lots of good input. Keep up tyhe great work! |

Location: Lawrenceville, Ga. | Yeah, it's funny and sad at the same time. This guy (the owner) got the guitar by mistake when he ordered some other Ovation models. It apparently hung on the wall at the shop for a while, no doubt because there were no takers for the 'plastic topped guitar.' I was very happy to be the beneficiary of his misinformation. The 1868T plays like a dream and it's the only guitar I own that my teenaged daughter thinks is cool! |

Location: Central Oregon | I played an Elite T a year or so ago. It was a mid bowl, pewter colored. Played great, sounded great, but it wasn't my cup of T, so to speak. I don't play out much, so durability isn't much of an issue. If I played out I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy one. Especially for $499! Wow! His lack of knowledge regarding his product certainly worked in your favor. What year was it made? I'm wondering how long he's been trying to get rid of it. I can just imagine the looks the the guy got from people .

I don't have an Elite T at the moment, but I have had a couple of them and thought they were terrific guitars for the money. You got a nice price for a guitar with a very user friendly neck -- especially for electric players -- as well as a surprisingly excellent sounding top, considering it looks like someone sprayed it with industrial textured paint! It is most definitely a superb gigging guitar, and I happen to have owned at least half a dozen of the higher end guitars from 'the dark side' so am able to compare on the basis of extensive experience.

I can say it's safe I am the one who started the post on AG turned out to a real trip, I could not believe the name calling. Cliff invited me over here and now I play an Elite Special S868. And I love it.

Location: Lawrenceville, Ga. | Thanks to all for the welcome. Paul, I used to have the same model Elite a while ago. Great guitars, plugged or unplugged. Too bad that other folks personal prejudices against the 'Roundbacks' prohibits them from hearing what great guitars they are. You would think they would be all over the Ovations- American made, quality solid wood tops, etc. That whole U.S. manufacturing thing was also a controversial thread on the other board. Also, to Nils- I don't have the serial number handy but the guitar couldn't have been there too long as the shop just opened in January of this year. I probably could have talked the guy down a bit more but didn't have the heart. I'm now looking to replace my old S&P Cedar 12 string with a nice new Ovation to match my Elite. |

At the Last NAMM they had sported a 12 string LX that we have yet to see. Through this board I have come by a Custom Legend 12 that I just adore. The Elite T remains on my top five to obtain list!
I'm thinking the Lyrachord fret board has got to be better than the alunimum ones |

I love my Ovations, and will never slam another make of guitar, as I believe in "boost, don't cut"... In saying that, I will also add that you can have my Ovation when you pry my cold dead fingers off it's neck... :D
