Well I've just finished uploading my 2nd song onto garageband.com.
This sight is great because you can check out original tunes and submit your own.
Although I have emailed some of you Individually, I wanted to post the link here for the rest of My OFC friends so you'd have a chance to check it out.
here's the Link

Steve

3 stars is good.

I am a long time garageband veteran, my two sons have many songs on the site, my oldest as "probity" an alternative category and my other as "Ragin' Redneck" a rock and blues who won't put his songs out for review.

Here's your review, vocals are excellent, guitar playing and sound is very good, lyrics are very original, arrangement is outstanding. Special recognition for guitar playing, vocals, a very good attempt to sound like your influences, but better, because it sounds like you and imitation in music is a waste of time. GOOD STUFF!

Enjoyed both songs, Steve. I like your style of music. As a matter of interest which guitar(s) were you using ?

I used a borrowed Ovation Legend. The 12 was a Yamaha. I'm sorry to say that at the time the song was recorded I didn't own an Ovation of my own.

Ya sound pretty good there! For some reason you reminded me of the Bee Gees song "I started a joke." Kind of a similar tonal quality to your voice or something. Or maybe I'm just imagining it as I haven't heard the whole song in years. Good job though!

Thanks! That "Walk by Faith" is off a promo CD we did for our church late last year. I played bass on that particular song. Working in the studio was a real learning experience (The Pics in my sig MyTalkbass Gallery) Laying down the instrumentals without any vocals was a real challenge for a hacker like me, but we all had a ball. The vocals were recorded like a month later. I was amazed at the finished product. Kudos to you for producing such great sounding results!

Sounds very good!

Since I've been playing around with recording lately (again), could you share what kind of setup was use to record? Recorder, mics, etc.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Thanks Bradley,
The song was recorded in my Home in 1995. At the Time my setup was as follows:
A Tascam 488MKII portastudio
1 AKG C3000
1 AKG C1000
a Digitech Studio Quad Effects Processor
A DBX 266 Compressor Gate
A 76 Key Casio Keyboard
Yamaha NSM 10 Monitors
BBE Sonic Maximizer
Tascam Cassette for Mastering.
The guitars were for the most part Fed directly into the Recorder.
Vocals recorder on The AKG C3000
1 of teh guitar pasrt was recorded also with the AKG C1000.
Not a real sophisticated set-up. But for me at the time it sered it's purpose.
The room Used was a Spare Bedroom
I deadened the room quite a bit using Heavy Quilts Drapped over the windows.
and hung on the walls.
The bed was also Padded with extra Quilts and Throw Pillows.
I made a Makeshift Sound wall pannel
Using an old Cosmetic Display Panel,( The ones you used to see at Department stores that had the heavy duty Cardboard Photos of models posing with the parfume bottles.)
I simply took a Quilted piece material, Stapeled it the the display, Padded Sonex Sound tiles were put over that .
That in essence was the studio set-up I used.

What do you have now, (10 years after, well 9-1/2)for a studio?

Bill,
Unfortunately I don't have any home studio equipment. I sold it all off when I went though a Divorce in 98. Eventually, I'll get a studio up. and I'll be Digital. I saw recently that Tascam now has a 24 Track Digital workstation for just over $1,000. Until then, I'll either lay down tracks with friends who have the equipment or go to a studio.
