My Son recently purchased an Ovation, it did not sound as good as what it should. Someone has suggested that he needs a certain grade or type of strings.

If he bought it from a music store and they didn't put new strings on it, it probably does need new strings. Dead, worn out strings will make any guitar sound bad. What model Ovation did he buy?

Welcome to the site, you will get many opinions here on which are the best strings, all correct in their way. One thing for certain, strings AND proper setup will make a world of difference in how a guitar sounds and plays, most Ovations are good sounding when properly set up, so give us some partiulars about this guitar and stand back for a tidal wave of opinion, or, if not, search on any relevant words and find that same tidal wave. Words like "strings", "setup", etc..

Welcome

Bailey

I put elixir nanoweb light guage on my old custom balladeer and it really seemed to come alive. The bass end is a lot clearer and more punchy than before. The strings are more expensive but they last longer too.

I've been having a lot of luck with Dean Markley's Alchemy GoldPhos strings. Really great sound and they lasted for at least 2 months without showing any wear.
