I'm thinking about sending my 1124 in to have an Op40 preamp and saddle pickup put in. The factory said, "No sweat," they do this all the time. But they didn't answer my question about 'how much.'

Anyone had this done in the last year or two?

Thanks!

:)

I had electronics installed in a legend about 3 yrs ago. Don't remember exact price, seemed about $200-300 with shipping.Of course an excellent job. I'm sure they will give you a price ahead of time, they did with me.They have done enough to know the costs involved.

Thanks - that's in the ballpark I was figuring.

I'm surprised they didn't give you a quote. When I called to see on upgrading the pre-amp in my O to the OP-24+c, they gave me a price as well as time frame. IIRC, it was around $300 or so.

How about converting an original electric country artist to an external battery supply without changing the original preamp?...wonder how it would affect the acoustics?...

Steve,

I sent my '90 Legend 12 string w/OP24 and internal (or should that be "infernal" :D )battery holder back to the Mothership for a neck reset and while there I had them install a external holder for like $25 extra!! I don't know if it helped or hindered the acoustics but it shore makes changing batteries easier!!!!(One of the BEST improvements Ovation made was going to a external holder! IMHO)

hey mike, just now got back top the board and saw your post...;if you haven't noticed a sound difference then it was probably a good idea, especially with a 12-string; i like the idea of keeping my country artist original anyway, i was just curious how it would affect the acoustics in mid-depth bowl..

IMHO, the less in the cavity (or less sharp angles) - the better. Compare the same guitar that is acoustic with one that is a/e. Example is the 1776 Patriot and the a/e (mine) has only the vol knob. Wouldn't do it just to get the small difference but doubt that changing to external access would be negative.

Hi to everyone, I put a OP40 in my Celebrity a few months ago and it was not a real hard job (then again not a real easy job). The thing you need to look out for is the placement of the OP40 in the guitar body. If you are off a little you will wish that you had Ovation do the job for you. If you have any questions I'll try to help.

My 12 string Legend is a 1866 (shallow bowl) but I doubt the change made any difference (no mater what depth bowl)acoustically because the only thing that changed was the access to the battery!.......the battery holder and battery is still inside the bowl!....so I didn't gain anymore "free" bowl space!

I haven't called them yet; just e-mailed...they did say they'd give me a quote when I call; I wanted to get a ball park here ... just in case of 'sticker shock.'

:D

I'm not as concerned about how it affects the acoustic tone, since the whole point of amplifying it is to plug in! I'd say the acoustic tone right now is adequate to good, so I'm not afraid of that changing with the added preamp inside the body.

Thanks again, everyone.
