Joined: December 2003 Posts: 83 Location: New Mexico | Would like some opinions on value of 2 guitars. I know value becomes relative but I think the experience of members on this board is priceless and could save someone as inexperienced as I am from some very costly mistakes. I am looking at an Ovation 2002 Collector's Series Acoustic/Electric Guitar (New) with OP40. Mint condition. (Looking to buy something very nice but also possibly of some value in time for my wife). I am relatively new to this forum and I understand reluctance to place value but a ball park figure of value would give me a figure to work with. I am also looking at CELEBRITY OVATION DELUXE LIMITED EDITION GUITAR CP2002 on ebay. I think I'm getting to old or blind. Couldn't find this on the Ovation website. I also looked in the link that someone so kindly made with a html price list of models when new. Didn't see it their. Here is the link below, just would like some opinions. Thanks.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3742873723&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT :p

A 2002 Collectors' can be had -- if one is blessed or fortunate -- for as low as $700 but $800 - $900 is a more reasonable range. This assumes a hard case and excellent condition or better. If you can find one for less than $700, snap it up. It is a good model, and I believe that it debuted the OP-40 preamp. As to that Celebrity LTD, my opinion is that they are overpriced given that the main difference with the CP2002 is a lot of abalone and an upgraded top. http://www.ovationguitars.com/index.cfm?fa=detail&mid=1141# That doesn't make for better construction, bracing, or a better neck. A patient buyer can pick up a USA Legend or Elite for a similar price, and that is a much wiser purchase, imho.

A big difference is he seems to have more hair, wears mauve shirts, and gets away with wearing a beret in 2004. If I dressed like that in rural Nebraska, I would have to learn how to fight. :p

I think a couple of them thought we were the entertainment - relief as we walked out the door to the cars.
