Is that a custom job with the tortoise binding around the top? Looks very cool with that soundhole rosette, too.

Well, you know that Witko's got a big pair if shows a Martin on this board.

Seriously, if I had more guitar funds, there would be a lot of non O's in my collection. But since I don't, I play the guitars that appeal to me the most.

Witko's rich. I'm not.

Well Paul, perhaps YOU know that he does, but I, on the other hand, have never (nor never HOPE to) seen him with his shirt off . . . . . . .

Clifford:

If you read my post you'll know that I surmise that he has a big pair because he's willing to post a pic of a Martin he bought.

For an eyewitness, talk with Temp.

1. Tortoise body binding is standard
2. FD-14 headstock was a custom
3. I'm not sure about "my pair ..."
4. I'm not "rich", but I do have a back door to sneak guitars into the house without my wife seeing them (until someone leaves incriminating voice mails)

You'd be slammed for comparing an Ovation "plastic" guitar with a Martin (a "real" guitar).

Sorry about the voice mail. Shouldn't be sneaking around like that. Your "affairs" (with guitars, of course) will get you into trouble.

Dave;
Send it over to the AcousticGuitar forum as well.
They've been deeply ensconced in some kind of Taylor/Scientology controversy lately. . . .

A healthy round of "OvationBashing" will probably help them "re-center" themselves. ;)

Those are both lovely, given.

If it's the epitomy of useful engineering you want why aren't they both multi-holed?

Multi-holed? I'm not sure I understand your question ... But my personal preference has always been center hole guitars. Forget all the engineering BS, I just think they LOOK better. I guess I'm just a "single hole guy in a multihole world". At least as far as guitars are concerned ...

You know, this Martin guy must be a heckuva player. I hear his name tossed about all over the place. Ain't never heard him, myself, though. Does he play an O?

"Ovation Guitars really don't get the respect they deserve! Ok, I came out and said it."

Truth is you can't compare. They each have their own qualities and each have their own place. Not all Martins are crap like some Ovation bigots would lead you to believe. Just like not all Ovations are plastic pieces of junk, as some Martin owners would claim.

Maybe with Ovation you get 95% of the sound for 50% of the price. Many would consider that a great deal, I would. But some people aren't looking for a just great deal.

I still claim the best value (sound) for the money is the Taylor Big Baby at $399. And THAT doesn't get any respect at all.
