Location: U.S.A. | Hi everyone! I just found this website and have some questions regarding my Ovation model 1111-4. I bought this guitar from my friend back in 1980 in mint condition with its' own hardcase.
During the past twenty five years, it's been in the case over 95% of the time.
I couldn't find much information about this model on the internet, perhaps someone here can help giving me the information about this guitar.
The serial number is 132174 made in New Hartford, Conn., U.S.A. It's has natural color and sounds is very beautiful.

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Hi, Naim.....it is a Balladeer, with no electric preamp for amplification. The -4 refers to it being a natural colored top, with no color. If you look in the reference area, you can find out what year it was made, under the 6-digit serial numbers.

Welcome to the club, Naim! Sounds like you have a great guitar...it's even in the best 'color' Ovation ever made! The serial number puts manufacture in 1978 (between April and December), according to Cracking the Code. Enjoy! |

I remember I bought this guitar back in 1980 from my friend who lost all his money to the football betting and despertly need cash. He sold it to me for $175 and I thought it was a good deal so I bought it.
I wonder how much the list price with hardcase was then. |

The Retail Price Guide (if you click on 'Reference' over on the left side of the browser window, you will find a couple of links to Price List..either HTML or Excel format) says that a '78 Balladeer went fro $395 (SRP, not street price, I don't believe). I'm not sure if that includes the HSC or not, but there you have it. |

Location: Upper Left USA | 1978 was before Al Gore invented the internet so most likely the actual price was no more than 20% off. Probably paid full price with a set up and new strings, toss in a couple of picks and full mark up on the groovy strap.

Location: SoCal | These are nice guitars. Well worth the money. I've got a 1972 Balladeer and found an odd but cool thing about it.
At home, inside, it tends to sound crashy, no depth. But I took it on a camping trip and played it at a campfire and in the wide open, the crashiness was gone and you would have sworn that you were listening to an old Martin. Wonderful depth.
Go figure. |
