...with nothing to do all day but sit in the sun with my feet in the pool and various brands of beer cycling through my right hand. Of course, I did have the Elite out, she's working on her tan, after all. But, I'm tired of practicing 'Moonshadow' (feh, I'm this >< close to having all the parts work together). Fingerstylin' is fun, but I haven't played with a pick in so long it feels funny now.

Anywho, on Austin City Limits tonight, they had Jonny Lang (his intensity always amazes me) and Chuck Prophet. Incredible sets from both of them, with Prophet closing out with 'Summertime Thing,' which really does sound like a summertime song.

Oh, and here's the obligatory Wilson Sister's Content (tm), per the forum rules...did you know that Heart covered one of Chuck Prophet's songs on their latest album? Sure enough, they did 'No Other Love.'

Ok, enough stream of consciousness writing for tonight. I suppose I should go work on the fingering for that chorus some more...

And what is wrong with stream of consciousness writing anyway?

Are you reaching the pinky up to the 5th fret on Moonshadow or is it the second position D set? It's all good.

Peace

Nothing wrong with it, but my mind goes 900mph, 24hrs/day, so if I get started down the SoC line...there's no telling where I'll end up. :)

Well, I'm definitely stretching that pinky up to the 5th. For the intro, for instance, fretting 1-3 at the 2nd fret, with my pinky up on the 5th fret on 1. Something like this:

|-5-----5--5
|-2---------
|----2------
|-0---------
|-----------
|-----------

I'd tab out more, but, well, I'm not much on tabbing (I really had to think about how I play it in order to do that little bit...too much like work) .

Is there an easier way? My wife requested 'anything but more blues!' so she's getting Moonshadow. It all sounded to simple when I first started...

:)

This sounds like Guitar First Aid.

On or about 1975-78 - the "Learning Years" I was learning most all of the "Best of Cat Stevens" book, CSN&Y Four Way street, Easy Eagles, John Denver and some Peter, Paul and Mary. Drop the P,P&M until Folk is cool again in five years.

Fingerpick Sad Lisa and Into White, strum Morning has Broken, pick out Teach Your Children and (bring the P,P&M back in) work on various versions of Slack Your Rope Hangman.

And relax.

I wonder why it is that chicks dig Cat Stevens and James Taylor so much. And Jonny Lang...as long as I'm thinking about last night's Austin City Limits.

Thanks for the playing tips. Maybe I'll fire up Sonar and record 'Cruster's Cover of Moonshadow' (alternative title: Playing Cat Steven's *and* developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!)

Johnny Lang... I cant watch that guy (kid?) play and sing. I can listen, but when I see his mouth movin' to the words it just looks "put on" to me.

Hrmm, like karaoke? Lip syncing? Or that he's not really putting as much energy into it as he 'seems' to be?
