I just got back from Orange Beach Alabama and after a week of sun, sand, sea and suds I totaled up the number of people playing O's in the bars and resturants I visited. 1 Adamas, 2 Elites, 1 Balladeer LX, 1 1861 and another that was so beat up and held together with duct tape I couldn't tell. I (being the Ovation nut) asked each one how they liked them and why they played them. The main reasons most played them was because they could get great sound thru any sound system they played at, even outdoors. The next was because the guitars and pickups are so tough. The moving them from air conditioned homes to hot cars to outdoor hot and humid venues or air conditioned bars never affected them. Alot of them said they'd take them out of the gig bag or case and the damn things were still in tune! Not one of them had had trouble with the electronics in spite of the fact that the screws holding most of the EQ's in place were rusted from the salt air. The best reason I got from one guy who played at Florabama.. (If you've never been there you need to go)... He said if you're going to play an acoustic guitar is some of the places he plays you need a weapon and he said the round backs can knock out a drunk when swung from the neck.. He said he's hit two drunks, knocked them down and never went out of tune or broke a neck off!... I was laughing my ass off.. After that story I went back to the beach house, grabbed a boat drink and sat out on the deck with my 1111-6 knowing I had a formidable weapon and a formidable musical instrument... You think they'll start requiring weapons permits for Ovations?...

Gotta Love those Ovation owners,
Gerald

Been to the Alabama gulf coast and to the Florabama region. Great bars and bands. Will try to catch the "O's" next time there.

Funny, I'm taking my Adamas to Gulf Shores (and I will definitely be making a trip or two to the Florabama, sans guitar). That is, if I can get it fixed. That bar is a good time, but if I were playing there it would be the Celeb for sure... no use hitting somebody with a good guitar! :D

Have a great time... Make sure you go one day during the afternoon when the "Party Boys" are playing.... the tunes and lyrics are great.... The Florabama is the most unique beach bar I've ever been to and I've been to a bunch , some of the best musicians I listened to were at the new Lulu's (jimmy buffet sister's place). You'll see it when you cross over the intercoastal on 59. Catch some rays, listen to some great tunes and of course enjoy the "talent" roaming in the bikinis!
