| Can anyone tell me what type of paint is used on guitars (in general). I would think Ovation, Gibson, Fender, Rickenbacker, etc. all use a similar finish? I have to touch up a few small flakes around my Doubleneck Ric, where I just reset the bass neck? I was thinking I could get a specialty auto body shop to mix me up a pint of paint to match, but I am not sure if I should get Laquere, Enamel, or what ???? Anyone with any experience with this sort of thing? also the clear coat? I would think this would be the same base as whatever paint I get. But I am not sure of this either??? Thanks Randy |

The basics of refinishing are covered here:
http://reranch.com/
You could use this as starting point to learn more about finishes.
Hope this helps.

wemedge gave you a good start. I have bought some paint, clear coat, swirl remover from guitar reranch. You can also call them. A nice group of folks. Located in Grand Prairie, Tx if I remember correctly.
Project Guitar is another informative site.
However, unless you are really skilled with paint, it will probably be hard to get the same color back on in small spots. As paint ages it will change slightly, also wear will change its look.

| Thanks guy's I will learn from here? nice site. I have a body shop that matched some old paint for a 1931 oldsmobile and it was real a real strange color and had faded with age, but I can't tell the difference? If I can find the type of paint he can mix it! Thanks again Randy |
