Location: northern virginia | I went to my local guitar guy’s shop on Saturday to look at (which really means buy) a new Elite LX, and……I somehow left he store with a new Alvarez Yairi Masterworks model. All my Ovations turned their roundbacks to me when I brought the new girl home!!!! But really, I love my Adamas & Ovations to an obsessive extent (and I’ll never, ever part with them), but if you happen get the hankering for a wood model, I suggest you check these things out. I won’t bore you (or commit treason :-) with details of its merits, but I now think this brand may be hands-down the most bang for the buck if you find you want to add something to your collection that sounds like a classic D-28/45 or Collings – and don’t want to drop 3-6K. |

Location: northern virginia | Well, it's difficult to express in words, but each string (whether alone or in a chord) has a bell-like ring that sounds much like the striking of a piano string – strong, pure, defined, and clearly ringing with a slow-decaying (but not echo-like) sustain.
I suppose if I were to characterize it with descriptive exaggeration, it’s like playing a baby grand on your lap. Very different, and definitely something that I didn’t believe could be purchased for anything less that 5K (which I just can’t bring myself ever to spend on a guitar) |

Location: SoCal | Alvarez Yairis have always been great guitars, on my short list of guitars to buy with a great sound and a reasonable cost. I played my first one about 30 years ago in college and was very impressed. |

I was talking to the luthier that invented them and I didn't ask about the way they were made, but they were built well, all hand-made. The overall tone was good, and what surprised me was it passed my little test of maintaining consistant volume up the neck. It's not as loud as an Ovation of course, but that consistancy was there which was nice to see in another guitar for a change. It was also surpisingly comfortable to play. When I sat down with it, I was thinking that "this must be what Ovation's non-believers feel like the first time they play a round-back". I really expected to have to hold special, and it just sat there. |

Location: Atlanta,Ga. | Roundsound, welcome to the YIARI club.After owning just about every ovation made i decided to start collecting some early and rare Yiari's and early anvarez models.I have been focussing on the Brazilian rosewood models from early 1970's(DY90,DY96,DY95,DY77).They also have some nice mahogany models as well DY85,DY73..Then if you want a wood roundback model they have that as well. |

Location: northern virginia | I was lucky enough to pick up a new DYM 04 Anniversary….it’s a new creation, so there is no info posted on it yet, but I believe it to be a cedar top with acacia sides and three piece acacia back….the neck/bridge are ebony, and the pickguard/tuning machine buttons are rosewood. I’ll still an ‘O’ man dyed in the wool, but I’m now very excited about these, too. |

Location: Tampa, Florida | I own an 6778 Elite LX, a Martin CEO4, and a Yairi DY-84K, i got about a month ago. My Yairi is going in on Saturday for its makeover (Fishman Natural I, strap button, Elixir Light polys, and a superb setup by the best luthier in town) and will fit right in my rotation. (I like to play all of my guitars live, kinda what I feel like today). I am getting another guitar in the next few days, and I'll tell you, its gonna be an Ovation. I love the LX. I tried to buy a 2003 Collector's off Musak123 for $600 (FRG), but they don't take AMEX. Oh well, wasn't meant to be. I have decided the best guitar around for $600 (real dollars) is an EliteT 1778 in black, Man I love those things. Looks like an Elite dressed up for a black tie event. I figure as a complement to my LX, I would have an O with AA top, ebony board and bridge, maple neck, different pickup and preamp. About as much difference (except roundhole or Adamas) as you can get. Oh, my Yairi is a great guitar. The koa is awesome and the workmanship superb. Those bridges are a thing of beauty. |
