I've been reading these posts for several weeks and finally thought I'd jump into the discussion. There's a lot of great info in this forum (in addition to the humor...). Thanks for letting me in.
I have a couple of questions that have probably been answered over and over again in the past, but please bear with me since I'm a newbie.
1) I have recently acquired a ~94 N868, which I describe as a Custom Elite on steroids. Tobacco sunburst with abalone purfling and inlay up the sides of the fingerboard, which I think is much like the 96 anniversary model. I believe this guitar is USA made for the Japanese market only. Op-24 electronics. I just had it set up by Roger Crisler here in Dallas and it plays and sounds like a dream. (Yes, there is a question coming...) The leafwork (or whatever you call it) is peeling up around the edges in some places, and I'm afraid it is going to catch on something and break a big piece off sometime. Can this merely be superglued back down? Any better ideas?
2) Who has the best deal going on a new #9117 shallow case? The one the N868 came with is a disaster. I've seen some on-line for around $100, but add shipping and it's a lot. Who's the bargain basement for cases?
3) Oh, and any preferences among ya'll regarding the 8217 case vs. 9117 case? Pros/Cons?

I've been known to glue those wood epaulets down and then clamp them with a small clamp (with rubber tips) thru the soundholes.
Got no idea on cases, but it'll be interesting to see what others have to say.
Where in Texas is everybody? Big state. Our second largest. But Alaska is making noises about splitting in two and making Texas # 3.
I went to college in Austin and used to serranade dates on the south lawn of the Capital with my first Ovation, an Artist. |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | I think the more expensive case is slightly more plush, made in the usa and has a lock. The only thing I'm sure about the less expensive one is that it's made off shore.
As for the supergluing, I think that's probably the only way.
You might want to check with the ovation people. |

Location: Minneapolis, MN | The case that came with my Celebrity had the cheaper model case that came with it- I believe it had a lock also. I recently purchased the 9158 case for my 1663 (9158 is for mid to deep bowls). Both cases do the job, but I think the fit and finish on the 9158 is better. It also looks nicer IMHO. The more expensive cases appear very similar to the old tan cases. Has an Ovation nameplate on the exterior as opposed to having 'Ovation' embossed on it. Also has Ovation stitched(?) on the inside... real plush case. Just my two cents... |

I think I have seen super glue reccommended for the epaulets, Try a search on "epaulets" or "super glue" and see what emerges. I have to complain about the Texas invasion in, I think, 1828 or thereabouts. fortunately, the perpertrators were captured and marched to Mexico City in great humiliation. Just a warning to all you Tejanos bragging about the size of your state.
A Tejan and a French man were in a San Antonio pisseria, and the 6 ft 5 in Texan was fumbling with a less than stellar tool. The 5 ft 3 in French man was giggling as he observed the problem. The Texan said "What are you laughing at, French boy." French boy answers "I thought everything was big in Texas." Texan answers, "In Texas we grow MEN not PRICKS."
At that time San Antonio was part of New Mexico.
