Hi guys (and gals),

I recently discovered this forum and look forward to talkin' Ovation/Adamas with you all. I received a special order Custom Elite about 6 weeks ago, trading in a 93 Guild JF-30 12 string and a 95 Taylor 812-C (and receiving some change back). My opinions on a few things: I tried some Adamas models and went with the spruce top because I thought it has a brighter sound, both tops give a beautiful full, even sound though. Wood also has the capacity to age as well. Comparing my old Taylor to the Ovation, the Taylor was more resonant almost to the point of being muddy. The Ovation has a clarity and evenness of response that I prefer. The Ovation has a much more solid feel. More importantly, I felt I had reached a point with the Taylor that no matter how much I practiced, I didn't seem to get any better. Already with the Ovation, it is such a beautiful playing guitar that I have gotten better, being able to play parts that gave me fits on the Taylor. I did have one QC issue in that the 17th fret was raised out of the fretboard slightly that was creating a "tinkly" sound on the 14th and 15th frets. There are no authorized repair centers nearby and I paid a local guy $60 to level and dress the frets from the 12th on up. It now plays and sounds great. All in all, the Custom Elite is a fantastic guitar that sounds great unplugged and plugged in. I am now recording a solo CD mixing 2 condenser mics with the piezo and I am very happy with the sound. Anyway, I look forward to discussing Ovation/Adamas guitars with everyone in the future.

Welcome to the group Franklin. You've discovered what many people have, that when you fully allow yourself to experience a guitar and not just use your "snob appeal" sense, Ovations are right up there with the best of guitars out there. The Custom Elite is a wonderful guitar that I would pick up over most Snalors, Martians, etc.

Please feel free to jump into the discussions. You'll have a great time.

Hi Paul,

I would post a pic except I don't have a digital camera or a scanner! I'm looking into getting one or the other, though.
