| I just picked up a CC63 nylon for $100.00 - GREAT sound, great price. But... can anyone tell me if this was US or overseas made? Circa 1985 per the reference on this site. Also - either my pots are bad or the transducer is bad - I have no "dialability" on the volume & tone controls - it only works through an amp with both knobs on "10". Any suggestions on determining what the problem is and how to fix it? Thanks. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | CC63 was made in Korea. Great guitar for what you paid for it. I'm no expert on electronics, but I would start by installing a brand new battery and also checking the connections of the pickup cable into the preamp box and the preamp box to the jack. Dave |

| Thanks for the speedy reply Standing O. No battery on this one that I can find. When I replaced the strings and cleaned it up I had my hand all the way inside the bowl and couldn't find a battery anywhere - that was my first thought. Am I wrong about no battery? |

Location: Scotland | I'm pretty sure that the Celebs with two knobs were passive. I.E. no preamp and thus, no battery. If this is the case the problem you are experiencing is down to a mismatch between the output impedance of the pickup & the input imedance of the amp. Cheapest way to cure it is to use an external preamp to match the impedances. |

Location: SoCal | In the 1991 Ovation catalog, it states that the Celebrity electonics system is "non-premaped", and that the tone and volume control are "passive". No battery.
Which means that you might want to get your guitars electronics checked and cleaned.
Also, the reference section in this website only applies to USA guitars. For some reason, Ovation doesn't catalog the serial numbers of Korean instruments, so there's no way of knowing when your guitar was built. Sorry.

Location: Scotland | Dave, when running high-impedance,unbalanced, line-level signals, short high-quality cables are always a good idea, but they will not help in this case. A piezo pickup has an extremely high output impedance. In all cases the imput impedance of an amplifier or mixer must be higher than the output impedance of the source, or you're in trouble. The only solution is a buffer preamp or matching transformer. |
