No, not an Adamas Q... just a question.

Matt, if you happen stumble on this post, I was just wondering how the guitar was tuned when you were playing that fabulous Hawaiian lap steel music? A post in your tips section on slide playing in general - tuning, set up, the slide itself, would be invaluable... Man, your whole set was smoking the other night! I am determined to get to a chop shop now.

BTW, I think you have a very quiet page on this board because people can't post there - is that intentional? Everybody likes you/ nobody hates you after all.

All the players I saw at the jam did a great job, right up to the point where I passed out in the car. Rough day for ol' darc here. I wish I could have been in better shape to meet you all for the first time. (I'm not generally *quite* that weird.) And I wish I didn't have to skip the Hamer tour, even having seen it three times already. But I've gotta say, Rick did a fabulous job talking us through the Ovation side. I've been through that side of the factory as well, but I'm always fascinated by the wealth of straight, efficient, common sense that goes into building those guitars.

That said, I've gotta get back to my practicing - you all got me running scared. :)

Just tagging on - it was a great time and although I had been through Ovation on the HFC days, it was great to see Ovation take the starring role (and I have played Ovations many many years longer than Hamers). Lots of fun that will appear on a more coherant post in a few days (and special thanks to Paul Templeman for coming to visit Casa de Stonge - in addition to playing a mean guitar that fellow knows the most amazing, bizarre, side-splitting funny websites I have ever seen. My bookmarks file will never be the same).

and Matt - thank you for the jam and did I hear that you had some glass slides available? I think I need to work on my bottleneck skills a bit... I'll drop an email by as well - thank you!

best wishes, stonge

There are TWO MAtt Smith sections. One is a place where Matt can rant and rave, and the other is where anyone can post and ask a question.

Hey Stonge, thanks for your hospitality, we all had a blast. What a collection!!!!!

Shoot me your postal address so I can ship over the Douglas Adams thing we talked about.

I'm writing this from Schipol airport with another couple of hours to kill before my connection to the UK. The jet lag is starting to kick in but it was worth it. Rick, Kim, Miles, Al, Matt & everyone at Ovation & Hamer deserve a huge thankyou for a fantastic day.

Just a side note. I've managed to get my Deluxe Balladeer this far without having to check it. An Ovation case will fit in the Overhead bin of a DC9 & DC10. I think I'll have to check it on the last haul, KLM's Fokkers are pretty small (Oops, the jet lag appears to be affecting my ability to spell!)

Thanks Darc! And may I say what an immense pleasure it was seeing old friends, making new ones, and marveling at the wealth of talent involved in the OFC... The tuning I used for the hawaiian slide piece was (low to high)
D A D F# B D
this is a D6 tuning... I'll put up a slide lesson on my interactive page... (playing tips) as soon as I have time...once again, a GREAT OFC day!

Good place to mention that I got the National Guitar Workshop 2003 flyer not long ago, and Matt was all through the thing with pictures and every thing. Some members might want to look into that. Give it a plug Matt.

Thanks, Matt! Just tuned up. Thirds in strange new places. Now all I've gotta do is break a bottle...

I had picked up (actually, Jeanette bought it for me as a gift) one of those hand-blown glass slides that Matt was selling there. Really cool!!!
Each one is unique and each one a signed work of art. Mine has a real cool "aquarium" design that's blown INTO the glass (and not "painted on"). Thanks, Matt!
