Miles, having looked at the spec of the new pre's I think the overall frequency response takes into account a guitars higher partials, which are way over 2.6Khz. And although we may not be able to hear them, the high harmonics have an influence on how we perceive the transient response of the frequencies we can hear. The really important aspects are the frequencies at which the eq bands are centred. They are different on the 0p30, 40 & 50, and seem to make sense, though i'd like to know how they arrived at the differences. Maybe this is something we can get the tech guys to explain on the tour. I for one will be fascinated, but then I'm easily pleased.

My question is this.

There is a stigma about Ovations being "plastic" guitars.

They build the viper.

The back is made out of WOOD.

Why paint it with bowl paint to simulate "plastic" when you would probably sell tons more of them and make them more appealing to many more artists that have the wood bias?

I bet with a clear coat on the back of the mahagony this guitar would take over as the #1 guitar for people like Cheryl cowe, dave mathews, and all the others that use tailour etc currently.

Al I think your comment speaks to an overall attempt at keeping the wonders of Ovation "secret." It was only when I started my collection website did I learn the wonders and technology breakthroughs of the Breadwinner and UKII guitars. Even more recently people learning that the fancy piece on top of the neck of an Adamas is poly-something. I guess this even bleeds into the folks that buy a "Celeb" Viper and then months later realize it's not made in USA.

In the earlier days, bowlpaint was used on instruments that for some reason didn't look great because of their natural grain, or didn't hold the finish like the Eclipse or Breadwinner. This is fine, but why not have a natural wood back version of the Viper to show it off and do the same thing. Ones that don't look great, put bowl paint on. At least then people will be more aware that they are wood guitars.
