Location: Dallas, GA, USA | Hello, I'm looking to upgrade to a new Ovation. I currently play a model 1111, and frankly I don't know that much about it. I assume it is an entry level guitar, and considering what I paid for it that is just what I expect. I have always absolutely loved the look of the multi-soundhole models and I want to buy one, but after doing a little browsing, I have to ask for advice. I'm not an advanced player by any stretch of the imaginaion, but I read that the Celebrity Deluxe (which is in my price range, cheap) is made by the "Pacific division", which I assume means it's Asian-made. Basically, I don't want to buy a new guitar that isn't noticeably better than my current one. Can anyone steer me right? |

To move up from a Balladeer (model 1111), you ought to look at an Elite Standard, or a full Elite. The first will run you (in a store) about $700 and the second about $12-1400.
I'd suggest that you go to some stores and play what you can until you get an idea of what you want. Then start watching ebay and the local Pennysaver (local "for sale" newpapers and see what can be found. Buying used can knock 30-50% off the above prices.
If you don't have to have the multi sound hole look, check out something like this

It will sound and look better than your Balladeer (better wood, better bracing pattern, nicer materials, etc).
Good luck. |

Location: Dallas, GA, USA | So I take it to mean that, say, a Celebrity Deluxe isn't really a step up? Or just not much of one? Sorry to ask this stuff, but I'll have to drive about an hour or so just to get to the nearest Ovation dealer, and it's a pretty small store so odds are I won't get to play many different guitars.
Thanks again! |
