I just bought my first Ovation a few months ago. I've always wanted one but never got around to actually doin the dirty deed. Well now I have one and trying to get some info on the ol gitbox is what led me to you fine folks. I bought a used 1667 for $200 and love the sound and feel of it. I've tried to investigate the history and possible value of this guitar with very little luck. Sooooo I thought someone here might have some info. The guitar is a 1667 special. A second tag inside the body reads CAMAC 10th anniversary limited edition serial # 040. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Divejunkie,

Interesting model number. What you have is the 10th anniversary model that celebrated Ovation's 10th year in business. It's similar to a Custom Legend with the A-Bracing and the carved bridge and rod cover. No idea about the number produced, but definitely a bargain at $200.00.

CAMAC is (was?) the French distributor. Probably a limited for them that never made it to them or found its way back in the country. Why would a good American not want to be in France.......

Shouldn't that be 1657? The Anniversary was produced from '76 to around'83, so they aren't especially rare. As Patsbro said it's basically a fancy Legend with a carved bridge & rod-cover and different rosette & fingerboard inlays. Nice guitars, you did really well at that price. Try a search on "Anniversary" for more info.

It's probably a 1667 but the French have f**ked it again.

It is definately marked 1667. Thanks to all for the info. Where ever it came from I'm happy with where it ended up!

I may be wrong, but at the time of production of your guitar, "6" as a third digit in the 4 digit model code, did not exist.

Paul:
If the guitar was made for the French market then don't count on codes and model numbers making sense.

First, thanks to all of you fine folks. When I bought this guitar I liked the sound and feel and never really gave much thought as to its history. I thought traking down its history would be pretty simple but now I'm finding out it may be an odd bird. Not that its worth a plug nickle, but its mine and I have grown quite fond of it. I'll try and post some pictures since it also has a finish I've never seen on an Ovation before. As best as I can describe its a black sunburst with a black neck ebony finger board silver tuning keys, non carved walnut bridge and mother of pearl inlays and rosette. Man talk about a can of worms I think this may be a whole worm farm!
Thanks again.

Well, Well; sounds like the french were screwing us years ago and we were overlooking it. Thank the power that this guitar was saved from a life of being owned by lisping, degenerate fops in berets of colors not allowed by our military, and who would be shot on sight if they showed up near our soldiers. Thanks again to the power that none of them will be standing next to our troops when lives are at stake. Sorry if I sound sanguine, but my grandson is over there and I'll spend my life getting revenge on any cowardly fop that causes unneccesary casualities among our troops to hide traitorous deals with the devil.

Bailey, you forgot to add that the French have poor personal hygene, terrible public sanitation & will eat absolutely anything, except breath-fresheners.

I am of course, joking. Let's talk about guitars & music and leave the warmongering & zenophobia to the politicians. Please.

Before we leave this subject, it should be pointed out, to the French's credit, that the women there don't seem to believe in bras. That is one to their credit. From a distance, upwind, it's fun to watch.

Now back to our regularly scheduled broadcast.....

You won't believe this, I didn't give much credibility to guitars picking up signals.

I plugged my Viper into my 70's Hohner amp (probably a German design). and this is what I heard.

"Saddam, you there?
"This Sadddam, who there?
"Jacque
"Jacque who?
"World leader Jacque, turn the pipeline back on, my mistress is in French AF One ready to fly to New York for shopping and we run out of fuel when you turn pipeline off.
"You going to vote with devil Bush?
"No, No I veto, turn on pipeline.
"I turn on pipeline when you make your bomb work, I take inspectors out in desert to see your bomb and when I pull trigger it go FOOF not BOOM, boy did they laugh after they change their underwear.
"FOOF, I believe that is pronounced FOUF, sorry I make it work when you turn on pipeline and pay your wine tab, it is close to $11 billion American (pay in dollars).
"Is this connection secure?
"Yes if you have done as I have and plugged your Viper into a 70's Hohner amp. French security has determined that only a fool or an idiot would use that combination.

I unplugged in embarresment so I don't know what else was said
