Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | A friend dug out an old "Harmony" guitar that sat in his attic the past 20 years. Anyway, his boy wants to start playing, and I volunteered to clean it up, put new strings on it and so on. After stringing it, I noticed quite a bit of buzzing. I then discovered that the two main back braces have seperated slightly from the back. Looks like the braces are intact, but the glue gave way. Anyway, the guitar is probably worth less than $50.00, so I thought I would try to use a syringe and woodglue to refasten the braces. My question is, what kind of clamp, or weight can I get inside the soundhole, to hold the brace against the back? If I only put weight on the back, the brace just moves with it.
Appreciate any ideas.

p.s. The machine heads are almost impossible to turn. Would silicone, or graphite help them turn easier? |

| use tite bond wood glue A popcile (sp) stick works good to make a clamp. Cut the stick a little longer than the distance from the top of the guitar to the back.then wedge it in to hold the brace in place till the glue holds. good luck |

I didn't mean blow it up (like BOOM!), if that were the case, I woulda' suggested an M80 ;) .
I meant INFLATE a balloon inside of it to create outward pressure upon the braces. The popcicle stick idea is much better (and potentially quieter). |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | You might want to put a little weight on the soundboard with the popsicle method. You don't want to warp the top in the process of regluing the back braces. If you have small hands, I suppose you could put some contact cement in the gap between the brace and the back, and just hold it together about 5 to 10 minutes. Go the bathroom first. |

Must be this -25 March weather we're having. Just brings out the best in me!
