Okay, so I don't post much but I'm getting into it slowly but surely. Since I can't have an GP at the moment, I've decided to build my own solidbody.

[ Top View | Bottom View ]

However, one of the things I want is for it to have a neck and fretboard very similar to Ovations (I learned on one, I play very comfortably on my Preacher)... and I'm trying to figure out if anyone knows what the radius is?

Thanks :)

You wanna buy a maple Viper neck cheap? Just so happens I have one from when I built my Viper "Deluxe".

I might... dunno yet. Right now I'm in the planning stages, and I know I want this neck to be glued on, and angled to accomodate for the bridge/carved top height.

Tell me more :)

Bill;

Nice design!

What program did you draw/model that in?

Right now, I do a major part of my work in AutoCAD 200 amd 3DstudioMax.

Cliff-
AutoCAD "200"?
MicroStation would work good, too. :)

Little Bill - nice design. Ever check out Hamers?

Actually it's modeled in a 3D NURBs program called Rhino3D. I highly recommend it. Takes a bit of work to get used to, but I'm doing alright.

I'm actually going to rework the design a bit more for a more sculpted top. Right now I'm going to be building it with a Carved Maple top... but the highest point of the carve is 1/4"... so as to not angle the neck toooo much. a 2.188degree angle is what the neck's at with the current design. It was almost up to 6 degrees when I had it at 1/2". Maybe I'll go somewhere in between, or just change the sharpness of the carve and leave at 1/4".

heehee now I have to be crazy enough to actually build it.

I have a Viper and the neck is great, if you design your guitar around it you will have plenty of space on the high end. And you can probably get it cheap from Mr. PI, who defiled a perfectly good Viper just to get a fancy neck without black dots on beautiful maple. You could even design it to use a Viper pick gaurd that we hear are available, or you could buy a Viper and become a rock star and make all of us Viper owners happy like QOTSA did for their guitars.

Bailey (take the rock star route)
