Location: Costa Rica | I have a 1997 Collectors Edition guitar and am very pleased with it. The other day one of the small black-plastic thumb part of the tuning keys broke. Everything else is okay.
I went to some local guitar shops (Costa Rica) and can’t find any parts that will fit. On the key itself it sais “Made in Germany”.
I would like help. I need to buy either the plastic part or the whole Tuning Key.
- Does anybody know what "part number" this would be?
- Any idea who this manufacturer is in Germany?
- What other options for places to buy this?
I would appreciate any help.

Location: Scotland | The machines are made by Schaller, the buttons on Ebony rather than plastic (much classier) and are available as spares from Stewart Macdonald in the USA. (www.stewmac.com) There's two types, you need the "Mini" buttons

I have a set of chrome buttons I'll send you if you give me an address. I'm cleaning the closet and don't need them. The other option is as suggested, StuMac or perhaps the factory?
On second thought, was the 97 gold with ebony buttons?? That may look a little funny. In any case, the offer stands. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | Paul, lets make it easier. I've gone to the tool box and found one ebony button. It's the large one, not the smaller ones used on 12 strings. If this will help contact me. |

Location: Scotland | Al, the '97 I owned & the other 3 or 4 I've seen all had full-size gold-plated Schaller machines with the "mini" ebony buttons. Conversely my '78 Adamas has Schaller M6 mini's with full-size buttons.

are you sure they are schallers? You are probably right but I am not sure what tuners are on the guitars these days. |

Location: Scotland | Al, positive. The new Folklore's & Country Artist are using open-geared tuners, all the other current USA models I've seen, apart from the Balladeers have had Schaller M6's. The offshore stuff looks like Ping or Gotoh.

I bought the guitar a few years ago when visitng the USA and the guitar shop I bought it at has since closed. When I contacted the people at Kaman they said to go back to the place I bought it... :( |

Location: US | I had the same problem.
Bought the guitar in Orlando. After a couple of years, 3 of the buttons split (one fell off!). The reviews I had read described them as ebony buttons on mini schallers - mine were plastic. I contacted Kaman and they sent me a set of replacement ebony buttons within a couple of weeks at no cost. I was impressed!.
Maybe they've had a lot of people contacting them and decided enough was enough.
Love the guitar, although fret wear is greater than I would like.
