Location: Columbus, Ohio | New to Ovation so be patient. Bought a new Celebrity. The fretboard is very arched like an electric guitar vs. my Taylor in which the fretboard seems very flat. 1.) So, does Ovation make a center soundhole hole guitar with a more flat fretboard like Martin and Taylor?
2.) What is the advantage/disadvantage of the super shallow back?
3.) What is the main difference other than cosmetics of the Ballader vs. Legend?
As you can see I am already looking for my next Ovation upgrade. My price range would be around $650.00 Thanks for your help. |

2.) What is the advantage/disadvantage of the super shallow back?
easier to play while standing less acoustic sound
3.) What is the main difference other than cosmetics of the Ballader vs. Legend?

Also the quality of the wood top, the construction of the neck, the electronics, the fretboard (rosewood for Balladeer, ebony for the Legend, and the ornamentation.
There are big difference. Look for a Legend on ebay (built after about 1983, which will have the K-bar neck bracing and the A bracing in the top) and you'll get a great guitar for the money you want to spend. |

Location: Fort Worth, Texas | I haven't played a Balladeer, but just recently upgraded from a Celebrity to a new Legend. It was made in 2001 and has the shallow bowl and the OP-24+C preamp.
I play standing up in a band and when I'm playing strictly acoustic (like at home) it fills the room, so I think the shallow bowl is not a drawback for my playing needs...
Mine was priced down to $874.24 at a smaller local authorized Ovation dealer. It's original price was somewhere around $1200. They had a lay-away plan which made it affordable for me.
Everyone who has seen and or played it have said what a nice guitar it is...
Try to get one on e-bay for your price range. |
