Does anyone know the approx. dates of the various mergers through the years, prior to the current one? Or where I might find that info?

Thanks,
Gary

Ouch! Nah..just trying date my 3 guitars. I know the 69 & 81 would fall into pre merger time, but I have a '95 that I was trying to fit into it.

I thought the Takamine one was first and thought if I could get the date of that one, I could follow the line.

Well, if I hadn't been so lazy, I guess I could have looked for it myself. I found this and it served my purpose, and thought it was pretty good for novices like me so I figured I'd post it here:

They also left off the acqusition of Trace Elliot which was 1990. Trace was sold in 99, I think.
Also the part about Alison was missing.

That's a good read.
Interesting that the first composite rotor blade and first composite guitar top were in development at the same time.

The rotor blade was a spin off from the guitar technology.

Likewise, Brooklyn. Is that Brooklyn, Ct. or Brooklyn, N.Y?

Although I worked there myself for several years, Kaman has been part of my family since I can remember. My Dad worked there most of his adult life. I remember going to "Family Day" when I was so young that I hadn't started school yet. Every kid in attendance got a gift, and a nice one too. Charlie was a great man, and I'm proud that both my Dad and I had a chance to work for him.

One of the things I noticed was missing was Charlie's affiliation with Fidelco. They raised and trained guide dogs for the blind. He was someone to look up to and admire, and he left this world a much better place in so many ways.

Thank you Allison.
I'm still slowly picking up on the fascinating tribal history of the OFC.
Maybe that should be family history.
There is respect here even in the occasional spat.
Very unusual in a message board.

Alison, it's originally Brooklyn NY, but nowadays it's Austin TX. Thanks for talking about the company a bit. I hadn't kept up prior to about a year ago and it's good to hear the admiration of Charlie Kaman.

An interesting merger is the one that didn't happen. According to one of my fender books, Kaman was inquireing into buying fender back in '83? when CBS was looking to spin it off.

One wonders how things turned out in that alternate universe where Kaman bought Fender ...

My wife says it makes sense that Fender bought Kaman music because I like Adamas and Telecasters, but I wish it was the other way. No offense to the fender people ...

Charlie K is still with us, but I know what you are saying. Moody has a funny story about a donation he was making to Fidelco following the sad passing of his longtime family golden retriever. When asked, he said he would like it "in memory of Charlie", they gently told him Charlie was still alive. Moody meant Charlie, his dog. :)

Back then every potential company for sale got waltzed by Kaman, as well as others I'm sure. Gibson was offered up when the peruvian beer company wanted to off load them, 8 mil in sales and 1mil in losses, no thanks.

Nice history of stock splits up to the early 00's. Thanks for the link, Brooklyn.
