I'm tired of waiting for T28 to say something about the change to my signature (he knows how badly I wanted a Viper). I finally have it in my hands. Thanks, Miles!

It's #0053 in the collection, Sunburst.

Thanks! I was playing around some last night, trying to find "my" tone. I think I'll put some heavier strings on too, maybe try some 11's. But what a sweet sound! The low E and A strings have a real pop to them.

Seriously, Stephen, what are you planning to do with that guitar? It makes me laugh just looking at it. I would play it, but I don't think I'd pay money for it. The real danger is that somebody would remember you as the guy with the glitter guitar. Maybe just use it to play Ziggy Stardust.

Didn't you say once that that guitar was used in an Austin Powers video or something like that??

I agree with Jas that it has a certain cool/sick, David Lindley-esque "tackiness" about it, that probably would work on a song or two . . . but that's about "it" . . .

Yeah, it was featured in the Austin Powers movie "Goldmember".

Actually, it sounds pretty good and plays amazingly well (and stays in tune!!!). I recently restrung it to the Rickenbacker standard to give it the Ricky chime vs the standard 12-string sound.

Switching subjects here... I was just looking at the Vipers on eBay, and so many that you see have the same pickguard crack or split between the tone knob and the plug. Was there a design flaw that caused this to happen? A materials problem?

I'd venture t'say that it comes from the stress of the jack. Put a long plug in it, walk away from the amp a few times to where you've run out of cable, and that jack's gonna act like a fulcrum and cause the plastic to flex.

Lather, rinse, repeat for 20-30 years.

A drilled hole in a piece of plastic creates a stress point. Having two holes adjacent to each other creates a path of least resistance for it to "craze" and/or eventually crack.

The problem is part from having a jack in the PG but mostly by the player not wrapping the cord around the strap first. When you step on your cord (and you will eventually) you yarf out the 1/4" jack.

On the jack to body set up you merely wreck the cord and replace it.
