I'm working on a new CD project and am having trouble finding the publisher and getting the mechanical licesnse for a couple songs. These songs are NOT listed with or handled by Harry Fox Agency (HFASongfile). Tried that and struck out!

1.
Song: Lord Have Mercy
Album: Quah - reissue
Artist: Jorma Kaukonen (and/or Tom Hobson)
This song was recorded during the Quah sessions, but was not included on the original album, only the reissue. The same tune was used on Hot Tuna's "Phosphorescent Rat" Album with lyrics titled "Letter to the North Star"

2.
Song: Ebryonic Journey
Album: Surrealistc Pillow
Artist: Jorma Kaukonen (of Jefferson Airplane)
I believe the publisher is Icebag Corp., but I can't located then.

I need to obtain mechanical license for 500 copies for each of these. Can anyone help?

Thanks!
David

Thanks folks.

vcnyls: Been there. Lord Have Mercy is not listed under either's search engine. Embryonic Journey is listed with BMI. They sent me to Harry Fox, who doesn't list it.

alpep: I'm a 3-time repeat-offender at FPR :) I've exchanged emails with Vanessa, and she's been helpful, but still not luck. She gave me a contact at Sony/BMG, but that's a dead end so far.

Oh, and you are correct, you Waskelly Wabbit!

The only thing I don't know is why everybody's so surprised when I know anything.

Dberch,

The easiest way to solve this delimma is to just press the copies without paying the royalties...

then they will find you :D

AND have the check ready for the royalties, of course.

"Gee! I was hoping you'd call. Y'know, you guys are hard to find?"

Just to be sure they come, send a copy to Jorma.

For only 500 you may stay below the radar.
Just go for it.
Ask forgiveness, not permission.

Can't. CDBaby demands proper licensing.
