A few weeks ago I posted about rhe problems we were having with mywife's eyesight where she had become nearly totally blind.

Here is an E mail I sent to Al a few minutes ago.

Note that the operation worked and she can see, that mey not be the best thing for me as I haven't got any prettyier, but it is great!!

Al

Your price is very right!!

If you remember, I said I thought I got through to
Long Hollow and ordered, well, I did and they sent me
a strap, a very good one for $37, and I am very
pleased with the quality.

What has happened since is the problem as I would like to buy the one through you but I need to do a little dealing to get my kids to buy it for my birthday on Oct 9 (1935 if you care).

I told you all my wife was blind as her cataract
operation on her right had failed. We went to a new Doctor and he convinced us he could save her left eye.

Last wednesday we went in for the operation, and to make it short; IT WORKED, She can now see as well as me with her left eye. HALLALUYAH!

The down side is, we blew a rear tire on our GMC
Suburban on the way to the operation and had to call the Doctor's office to come and get Shirley as we were only a couple blocks away, which they kindly did. I had to change a tire on a 3/4 ton Suburban in 100 degree weather to get to the surgery office which almost wiped out my 70 year ass, but I did and all came out
well.

To summerize, I had to spend my little bit of excess money on two back tires for my Suburban, no problem, Shirley can now see and it is great but I am a little poorer than before.

Keep the deal open, I want that other strap and I
think I can get someone to buy it.

Thank you!! It's hard to relize what blindness is like, certainly I don't claim to understand it even though my wife now remarks on things she hadn't seen clearly for some years. I would like to ask you all to help someone who is blind in some small way, many blind persons won't have my wife's recovery. Each of you, close your eyes for 10 minutes and try to do your regular things.

That's great Bailey, i'm glad for you and your wife. You must say you are not poorer but more rich. Eyes are an external part of brain, which connects to spirit. We all here on hearth won't take our money (and our guitars...) with ourselves when we will pass, our spirit however will have to be free of these things. Brain feeds our spirit with what our 5 senses will have deliver during our life. Seeing is really one of the most important things for all of us.
All my best thoughts to your wife for recovery :)

The more important things in life always take precedent. I know that from experience.
Glad to hear that things are better.

So... if I have a flat and I'm near Las Cruces (sounds like a very painful spell from Harry Potter) what's the number I'm supposed to call?

Blessings on you Bailey!

Thanks for all the nice, nice thoughts!!

August 10 was our 49th anniversary, I think we can make 50 next year. In reality, July 13 was our 50th anniversary of our first blind date in 1956 on FRIDAY THE 13teenth.

For you old car lovers, I took her out in a 1946 Ford coupe that my brother had completely and nicely, restored the body with a green over green paint job, I had wrecked it in Virginia taking a 40 mph curve at 70mph, and replaced the front fenders and hood with parts from a 1941 Ford that I bought for $25 from a shipping out soldier, the carcass from the 41 probably still sits in the parking lot outside Ft. Eustis just south of Williamsburg, Va where I attended College of William and Mary.

Shirley always comments on the fact that the drivers seat was propped up on a short 2x4 and tended to fall backwards in rough roads, causing a lack of control. Don't ask what I was doing driving on rough deserted country roads in the back country. Once she had to push us out of a stupid drive on a deserted beach as her mother would have killed her if we didn't get home on time.

Seems like only yesterday!!

My advice to all is just be a decent person, realize you probably won't do any better by picking up someone in a supermarket or bar.

Those years go by awful fast while playing your Ovation.

And if you are allowed to play you will make that 50 in good shape, if you quit, God help your soul.

This is great news Bailey - great, great news. Everybody knows that "Your health's the most important thing", but it's only when bits of you stop working that you realise how true it is. This has really cheered me up.

Now you got no excuse for not posting a little more often.
