| Hi All,
I've been reading whatever I can find about the pickups and electronics found in Breadwinners, Deacons, and the like and still can't figure it out. If there is an existing thread or something that answers these then a point towards it would be helpful. I've searched but maybe not always with the right terms. Here's a few questions: which ones have passive pickups and which ones are active? can you tell them apart by looking at a picture of them? if not then how? what variations of p/u configurations regarding active vs. passive were there?
Thanks,
Mike |

If memory serves, I believe Brudev has schematics of some preamps in his gallery. |

Have you looked through this site?

| ok, thanks. that's what I thought in the beginning. i've seen enough confusing stuff to make me think (mistakenly) that some ended up being made without the active circuit.
as for p/u being active vs. passive. it is my understanding that some p/u that are used in passive circuits pretty much don't make too much noise when the battery is dead. i thought this was because the pickups themselves were built differently (impedence) than "regular" pickups. not that they themselves were active but that they were intended for use (and only worked correctly) in an active circuit. right or wrong or somewhere in between...that is how I understand it. I also understand that this isn't the case with the BW/deacon pickups, that they work just fine without the active circuitry.
cheers,
