New 1773LX - breathless!
Is anybody of you that practical to know which is the maximum string tension allowed for 1773?

I use d'Addario EJ46C nylon composite hard tension on the Viper EA63. For information, tensions are:

string Lbs kg
E 15.8 7.17
B 12.0 5.44
G 13.1 5.94
D 16.0 7.26
A 16.6 7.53
E 16.0 7.30

How do you like the composite strings? Do they last any longer?

I love them!
But I play them for just some weeks now, and can't say if they last longer than others or not. I think they could, but must wait some more time to give a real advice :D

D'add's EJ46 work good for me, too. They're pretty tough guitars, what string tension where you thinking of?

The 1773LX is assembled like any other Ovation LX model, only the top bracing is going to be appropriate for nylon strings. It is built like the proverbial brick $4ithouse will be fine with high tensions. No hard tension nylon string is going to harm it in any way. Don't even think about normal steel strings, but consider some of the extra light silk and steels(with wrapped leaders for the tuners), and the JP Thomastic sets. Many were designed for vintage Martin palors. Some of them have lower tension then the "hard tension" nylon set Arnaud listed above. I found that on my 1763, mass was more important than tension for sound quality. I did discover that I had better intonation up the neck (26 3/16" scale) with higher tension sets, but it varied with manufacturers, and ultimately, the very highest tension hard composite strings sounded "thin" and had no sustain. My favorite strings are the Savarez 520P1's. They are all wrapped e to E. Moody liked the way they sounded on his, but couldn't stand the thickness of the trebles (he's got these girlie litte fingers :p :D ). You should at least try a set. Right now I'm itching to put the JP Thomastics back on it and use it for jazz.

very instructive Fred, i think 9000 now has all the necessary informations. I must say i used Savarez Red then Augustine Black before i switched for d'Addario's. And there are so many to try on the guitar.... :D

I guess what I'm saying is don't get hung up on tension alone. There's allot more going on.

Yes, I think I've got necessary info and the best thing to do is try - as usual.
My original question was asked in order to avoid possible damage to the guitar itself in case of a tension too hard, since there are no specific instructions about: you made me realize there's no risk.
...and at the end of the day I'm not changing a factory string-set the very day after - am I?!
Thank you all! ;)
