I have traveled by air half a dozen times now since the new "no fluids, gels, etc. in carry-ons" restrictions. The bad news is that with all of the additional checked baggage that the airlines have to handle, waiting to pick it up at your destination has become very protracted. The good news for us is that there is now PLENTY of room in the overheads for Ovations and ... well ... other guitars to ride in the cabin and not in the belly of the beast :D

I was traveling this week with a guitar, and was told at the gate this evening that effective September 20th, US Airways will allow guitars to be carried on and stowed in the overhead bins ... with no attitude from cabin crew.

Coming back from the latest trip, I was carrying two guitars and a laptop (I shipped my amps, stands, the Taylor and the 1866) and had NO problem with carry on from Delta or American...until I got to Dallas, where they had to be gate checked, the overhead bins on the Canadair RJ they use isn't big enough to hold them....

Ask them to put the guitar(s) in the closet.

Some of the 50 seat RJs have a crew closet in the cockpit that would fit a guitar. You could try to see if they would let you ask the crew if you could put it there. If it were me, the answer would be yes, but you might hear some strummin' coming from the front up in cruise!

Don't worry I've got plenty of closets.

I knew that Dave :)

There is a potential interest for string tubes over in the forsale section...just trying to help ya move some of that inventory so you can buy more guitars :)
