Location: Texas | Hard times. Selling my nylon viper. Maybe asking too much in this economy, but they are rare on the secondary market and it would be hard to find a nicer used one. I have a Gibson CE that I play all the time and one of the two has to go. Just an FYI if anyone was interested.
Oh, price...1000 bucks probably will snag it. I know...Pride goeth before the fall, but maybe I will HAVE to keep it.
Peace,
jay

Location: Texas | Thanks, I will probably need it...
I am choosing the Gibson. Different from preferring it.
To be honest with you, they both sound similar (no brainer) so that isn't it. Two reasons the first, far outweighing the 2nd.
The viper is pristine. I haven't spent much time on it because I didn't want it to become "used". That may be somewhat on the compulsive side, but it is what it is. So I am choosing to sell it instead of play it. How is that for a reason?
The only real difference I can tell between "playing" the two guitars is the viper neck has a different finish on it. So the feel in my left hand is different. Of course it doesn't make a doggone bit of difference in playing it...just a different feel when you first start out. And it may be that the Gibson finish is familiar and so that is what I expect as far as feel.
A couple of things that I think would have made the guitar as preferable as the Gibson.... I wished Ovation would have counter flushed the epaulets, like they did on my Elite, making them flush with the top and who in the hell applies a black finish to a beautiful mahogany instrument? My understanding from Ovation was that you could have special ordered the viper in any color scheme OR have them leave the back and sides natural. I think the all natural look would have made the guitar as classy as the gibson. |
