1980 Acoustic electric guitar with original hard case. Absolutely great condition. Only played a handful of times. No scratches on guitar. A few scuff marks and a little rust on buckles of case. $375 plus actual cost of shipping. I have pics but couldn't figure out how to add them here. Just email me at wiggwoman@att.net and I will send you several. Thanks for looking ;)

How come there's nothing in the archives regarding a model #1639?

I think it's a Matrix.

If you follow the old "cracking the Ovation code", a Matrix comes up as a Balladeer. They had a simple concept going for awhile, then it got way off track.

The price list on this site says it's a Balladeer Special and has a current value of $525.

Balladeer Special is right, but the $525 was the retail price at the time of manufacture.

I saw pics and it looks good. But, what is a fair price?

20% depreciation per decade. At $525 new in 1980 it's worth about $200. today.

I appreciate the input. But guys this guitar has only been played once or twice since it left the factor so it really is in pristine condition and I am not sure that the typical depreciation rules would apply.

The guitar is worth what somebody else is willing to pay for it. If you can find somebody willing to pay $5000 for it then that's what it's worth. If the buyer is only willing to pay $200, then that's the worth.

My experience with Ovations is that they are undervalued. Your guitar is not a highly collectible model. With models like that, you can go from pristine to road worn and it won't make much difference unless you find THE RIGHT BUYER. It's only when a guitar has been really trashed that it affects the value. Your guitar is probably in the $200-$400 range.

But having said that, I hope you get $5k for it....
