Class A all tube amp with the classic VOX sound. Used a total of less than 10 minutes. Switchable between 1/4, 1, and 4 watts output so you can use it in a small room and still get the overdrive effect. I seem to use my Marshall more, so this one's up. I paid around 230.00 for it (plus shipping), selling for 200.00 with free shipping to your door, conn. US. Includes all original paperwork and packaging.

Hey Jim:
What does "Class A" tube Amp mean? Are there other classes or is this just marketing?

Great looking Amp by the way. Good luck with the sale. Sadly, I just bought a Crate Palamino 5 watt amp from Ebay just a few weeks ago. Bummer. I'd rather have this one because it is switchable between different power outputs.

Thanks.

It's a Valvestate AVT 50 that I picked up cheap on craigslist. Tube preamp, somewhat of a hybrid I guess. Nice sound, and plenty of it.

Class A refers to the way the power stage operates. Most modern amps are class AB. Low-powered vintage or vintage-style amps tube tend to be class A, mostly because it's a simple design that's relatively cheap to produce. Class A has a certain sound and feel that can be very good for some playing styles. These days it tends to be used somewhat misleadingly as a marketing term to suggest a "superior" amplifier, which is not neccesarily the case.

There's a technical explanation here

If your amp has one power output tube- usually a single 6BQ5/EL84 or 6V6- it's Class A. If it has a pair or quad of power output tubes, it's almost always Class AB, no matter what the marketing spoo says.

For the record, I bought one of these for my college dorm room and love it. Great clean and bluesy tone at a good price - and if you're interested in a bit more crunch, it really shines when putting an effects processor/amp modeler in front (I use my podxt from time to time on it).
