Location: Texas | You may remember that I asked for advice a few months age, in regards to major work on my 1981 Custom Legend. Yesterday I received the rebuilt guitar by UPS. All I can say is; it’s beautiful. The work included a new top, bowl and bridge. I was concerned that the tone would not be as good as before. Wrong! I really think that it now sounds as good, and maybe better. It still has tremendous volume and projection. If anything, the tone is more balance, with a slight less bass. The wood used for the top is superb, and the sunburst is beautiful. Thanks to Kim Keller and everyone at KMC/Ovation. The pictures that I attached cannot do it justice. I only have a point and shot camera and the high gloss finish is tough to photograph without proper lighting. Anyway, I have included some photos for your pleasure. I love the light feel and clean look. It plays like a dream.

| ya know your right about the paint shop. I found a beautiful Gibson LP and it had a custom tri color that had a little more yellow than normal, somehow this was the best looking burst I have ever seen on an electric guitar. ! I still wish I bought it, I don't think I'll ever find another..
I am not sure what the boy's and girls do at the Ovation factory do but I can't think of one multi color top I have ever seen from any company on an acoustic that comes close to the work they do at Ovation. They have that same over the top grab your eye kinda look.

When this was redone, you had it done with a cutaway this time? Your original 1119 was not a cutaway, right? Did you get electronics put it? I didn't see any. Also, the rosette is inlaid the way the newer CLs are done. Did your earlier one have the stick-on abalone rosette?

Location: Texas | Thanks, everyone. I’m very happy with the result. You really can’t tell that this is a rebuild, unless you already know and look for aging on the neck fret board and tuners. The fret board binding is ivory.

Also, the rosette is inlaid the way the newer CLs are done. Did your earlier one have the stick-on abalone rosette? The guitar was a 1619 that I bought in 1981. It developed a crack in the top some years ago and I sent it in to KMC for evaluation in October. They recommended replacing the top, which means the bridge and bowl must also be replaced. Because of the extensive work I had some options for what I wanted. The original was a non-cutaway, with the stereo pickup and glue on rosette. I went with the cutaway, inlaid rosette and no pickup or preamp. The other difference is black instead of brown bowl. I asked about a deep contour bowl, but it won’t fit up with the old neck design.
I don't think it fits the numbering system, but the new model number is 1119 and the serial number is the same as the original.

Yeh, the numbering system doesn't cover non-electric cutaways. 1119 fits better, and that's what they put on the label. The more important number is the nine for custom legend. The work was done based on this; AAA top, carved bridge and bling. |

Location: SoCal | When I sent my 78 Legend (1117)back to the factory for a new body, I was asked what kind of electronics I wanted in it. I think I surprised them when I said "none". But it's great as an acoustic only instrument. I have enough other Ovations (and Adamii) that I can plug in. People forget what a great acoustic sound these guitars can have.

Location: Texas | It's an A brace. BTW, I didn't concider no electric until you and Gallerinski suggested it. I was trying to decide between the old electric and new. I never used it and the guitar is lighter and cleaner without it.
