Joined: April 2008 Posts: 4 Location: Germany | Hi there, I'm Lars from Germany. I do not even own an ovation guitar (yet), so it's somewhat strange to use the Ovation fan Club forum..... ...nevertheless I'm really interested in these guitars and I'd like to know if there is a model on the market which has all these features: - 1-3/4" nut - cutaway - VIP5 preamp - 14 frets neck/body joint - contour bowl If not, which model comes nearest (order matches my priorities)? Thanks, Lars

The Collector's 2008 is a bit on the expensive side.... :-( And with the Lost Art guitar, I'm not sure about the koa top, as Koa is usually not as resonant as soundboard woods like spruce or cedar. I prefer a very open and brilliant sound and I doubt the koa top will provide this. The problem is, I'm located to Germany and can't try alpeps guitar before buying. Perhaps I can try to find a different koa-topped Ovation in some shop just to get a rough impression. Thanks again, Lars

For european price of new Custom Legend you can buy TWO Custom Legend's on E-bay (with shipping and import tax!!) i live in Poland, i can't imagine buying US made guitar for prices that resellers ask here.

My koa has a very dark tone. I like it because its not the normal Ovation sound. But if that's what you are looking for...

My brother actually lives in Munich, I hardly manage to visit him down there. Where do you live in germany? But if you'll visit your brother someday, feel free to contact me. So, what do I think about the 2006C? Honestly? This guitar sucks. Big way! Mine does not sound deep, dark or mellow. It's sounds thin, like an electric unplugged, lacking of tone and volume. Well balanced, but that's it. To be fair, it sounds okay - until you grab any other guitar from my wall and play it. To my ears - and this is what I am telling here, my opinion - this guitar sounds not what the looks promise. Koa is great to look at, but sucks as a guitar top. But: Maybe it's a sound you like? Maybe I got a bad example of Ovation's Koa guitars? Could be possible. A lot people here brag about the quality sound of their Koa Ovations (don't count the 12 fretters in. I am sure, they are different animals) - I don't. So maybe mine is worse than others. My tip for you: The 2008C would be exactly what you are looking for. Get this one, and stay happy for a long time, with a very reliable, nearly indestroyable guitar. Call Al before it's to late and get the real thing! Best regards, Kurt

Joined: April 2008 Posts: 4 Location: Germany | Hey guys, thank you so much for your support. Actually I came to the same conclusion as you, Kurt, namely the 2008 Collector's being the best choice for me in terms of features. It's way out of reach $-wise, though. So, I looked further and what really caught my eye and ear is the CA Guitars GX Performer. I see that people in this forum raved about CA as well. Finally I've pulled the trigger on a used GX Performer with COT-Inlay and Fishman Aura-Preamp. Playing in a praise & worship team I was deeply attracted by the Crown-of-Thorns inlay, too. I'm pretty excited now....if you like I'll share my experiences with the CA here. Nevertheless, that means I'm not going to become an Ovation user in the near future. Don't blame me! ;-) Bye, Lars

For the same money in Australia (similar problem to USA) I could get a custom legend. I don't think I could buy a 2008 Collectors in Australia even if I tried. Or if I did try they would just close their eyes and think of a very large number to make me go away. Can't wait to pick up that baby in October (it's waiting patiently for me in Al's tender care).
