That it will contribute to the long term life of the guitar. I haven't heard this before but I guess it makes sense.... Whatda'yathink?

I shipped a beautiful 1985 1767 Legend 2/3's of the way accross country. took 6 days including a weekend When it left the temp was in the low 30's. It arrive in single digit temps. Big crack in the finish/soundboard. Let it "warm up". I would thing 5-6 hours in "room temp" would do it.

If I owned a shop and a shipment of guitars came in, I wouldn't open them until tomorrow. But since we are Not guitar shops, and are very impatient... You should really take your time about opening a cold guitar package in the winter. In Eugene, your guitar quite likely just traveled through Colorado or Wyoming... nuff said! If the guitar is in a case, you can open the box... Then wait. After an hour or two you can take the case outta the box... Then wait. After about four hours, crack the case enough to stick your hand in there. If the guitar is still cold, close the case and Wait. Try to be patient. Otherwise you might be asking us what to do about that crack in your guitar.

I would not want to hurry the process too fast and end up thinking about how a little more patience would have made such a big difference. (picture a big crack or two in your new purchase) If it were me, I would take the time necessary to acclimate the guitar properly. Check the threads, too. This topic has been discussed a few times recently and there may be additional information you can use in them.

No issues for me whatsoever. But our temps here are pretty mild, and when I was tracking it on UPS I saw it was in NorCal for a couple of days before brown pulled up. I sure feel for you folks who wait, and then wait, and then when it arrives you have to wait some more.

The guitar should reach ambient temperature within a couple of hours, or at least close enough that it shouldn't be an issue. That said, waiting longer won't hurt, except your patience. ;)

Tonight I'll lay in bed with my eyes glued on the ceiling , ...picturing it strapped to a pallet outside of Laramie Wyoming-- or some such frigid layover.
