I have an old Ultra Deluxe 1528D that has some issues and needs a fret job and stuff, so I figured it would be better to just trade it in for something newer. It's a nice git but I really don't think it's worth putting a lot of cash into it?

I want to replace it with something similar, so what would be a new equivalent to the 1528D.

Thanx...

I would guess that it would be a Celebrity CC28 for a Super Shallow Bowl.
Or you could do a Celebrity CC24 for a Mid-Depth Bowl.

If you wanna spend a bit more money, you can get an Ovation 1861AX for a Shallow Bowl,
Or a 1771AX for a Mid-Depth.
These are both Balladeers that come with the OP-Pro Preamp, and center hole.

Back to the Celebrity's, you can get a CSE24 or a CDX24 or a CC24S to get solid wood tops.
But if you are gonna spend that much, you should just get the Balladeer.

I listed all of them because they have the Center-hole like the 1528D.
Also there are the Elites...

There is some food for thought! And Welcome!

Define a fret job... A complete refret or grind and polish? If its the latter, it may be worth getting an estimate, especially if you like your Ultra.

Thanx for the replies I'll check out those models.
I do prefer the center hole jobs.

It just needs a fret dressing although there are a couple of very low spots, but also the neck is lifting very slightly at the joint toward the front, messes up the action a little, I suppose it could be repaired but is it worth it?

What is a 1528D worth? It's Korean made so I guess it was a budget model?

I've had or played three 1528Ds and they all sounded different. One my buddy won't sell sounds better than the equivalent Legend and I'm pretty sure it's a solid top. Mine weren't and I've moved on. If yours sounds good, it might be worth paying for a new setup. Even if you go hog wild (fret dress, etc.) it shouldn't cost more than $100.

Not positive, but if yours is a natural finish top, it might well be a solid-top. If it's any of the 'fancy' finishes, it's laminated.

Yeah it don't sound bad, I've had better, like my Elite Special (S778) that I regret selling, it sounded great and played like an electric. The 1528D plays like a typical acoustic, you need a vice grip to play barre chords.

Not sure about the top here's a pic...

You might want to just pay a little extra and invest in that 2005 Collectors for sale on the sale board. Real class guitar for a fraction of its original price. I think this is the photbucket link.
