I was the winner of the GP auction that finished earlier today on Ebay. I didn't expect to win it, as these things usually take off like crazy in the last few minutes. So $1775 took it... or so I thought. As soon as I won, several things happened: 1) got a message from the seller saying don't pay through the Paypal link on ebay (even though it was stated as acceptable in the auction) 2) When I got the message, the seller's location was listed as being in the UK, when the guitar itself was stated as being in Chicago. I questioned the seller on this and he stated that he recently moved from the UK to Chicago. 3) His next message stated that the guitar was sold off of ebay, but ebay wouldn't let him pull the auction. 4) When I again questioned him, his response was that a GP is worth more than $1800 and that I should call him. He also stated that if Ebay suspends his account because of this, so be it. His Ebay ID is nricco7734. He says he has other GPs and would likely list this one and the others again... so beware if you see these auctions. The guy had no recent feedback, but his feedback in the past was all positive, so I wasn't too concerned. Fortunately I didn't send any money. Question - should I leave negative feedback, risking getting negative feedback of my own, or do I pursue the matter through ebay? Or do I do nothing and let it lie, lesson learned?

It's likely also the reason that the auction ended so cheaply. DO NOT try to proceed with an off-ebay transaction. Also, I think EBay removed the seller's right to leave negative feedback... so nail the SOB!

Don't worry about negative feedback, because sellers CAN'T leave negs for buyers. While this royally pissed off most sellers (including me) in this case it's good for you. And Stephen's right. It's probably a hijacked account.

I haven't it found where it's located in the ebay policies yet, but I'm pretty sure he's in violation by stating that the buyer has to pay the seller's fees. Also, in answer to a question, he actually tells a bidder what he should bid in order to try to win the item. Sorry this hasn't turned out to be a good experience for you.

Feedback schmeeedback doesn't mean anything anymore positive or negative. But I think StephenT hit the nail on the head. The telltale signs are to pay outside eBay/Paypal, item in one place, seller in another, account not used for a long time. None of these by themselves mean anything, but all together are the tells of a hijacked account.
