Hey everyone,

I'm relatively new here, just picked up my second Ovation - 1621-4, Artist / Balladeer I believe. My other Ovation is a 1121.

People keep telling me Ovations suck ... I don't know why but man, I really like they way they sound, play and record.

Despite being nearly identical in build, they sound quite different with the same strings. The natural top one has a more well rounded tone, mid-range comes out nicely. The Tobacco-burst one definately has a brighter tone.

Question for those in the know: is that Ovation logo gold-leaf?

Every guitar will sound a little different, although there are some here that will swear a burst will sound different (better) than a natural top. Not too sure about the logo, but I think it's just painted on, not gold leaf.

Your guitars have drastically different construction necks, and different type saddles which probably play a significant role in the difference in sound. The logo types changed over the years but probably not enough to effect the sound.

Welcome Virgil,

I do gold leaf on occasion and the headstock logo looks to me like the same thing (covered with laquer)

Well I've seen gold leaf before, and it kind of looks like it but I can't tell. I think gold leaf on a guitar would look really cool!

Were there two 1621 models built?
One with 5 piece neck with truss rod and
a later one with 2(?) piece neck with K-bar?
