Joined: March 2003 Posts: 127 Location: Corvallis, OR | My Adamas 2080 sometimes has a very loud buzz. It is so loud it seems to come from all over the guitar, but I have finally localized it to the plastic edging around the tear drop hole. The side of the edging nearest the strings is thin and apparently made of metal, and every now and then it really raises a good buzz. I can easily slip my fingernail under it. This fitting is much thicker on the side away from the strings, and this outside edge is apparently glued or held down quite solidly. I hesitate to get glue any where near the top of this expensive carbon fiber guitar, but don't see any other solutions. Any ideas out there ? Thanks in advance for your time

Apparently it had gotten bumped hard at the store and it wasn't noticeable until the glue joint separated enough to make it noticeable. Yours sounds like a pretty easy fix if that's all it is.

Maybe you could slip, oh, I don't know, maybe some thin, narrow felt or something under the loose side. Just an idea, and probably not a great one, but it might work.

I chose to go ahead with gluing the trim swoosh, but I personally would not glue a brace if the guitar is under warranty, ymmv. My guitar never buzzed even with the very loose swoosh, so you may find that your buzz is something else, perhaps a wire inside that is touching something, or maybe the preamp can is loose. The top of the guitar is not planar, though it isn't apparent until putting a straight edge along the swoosh. This is normal, and I think it explains the swoosh coming loose if it was glued on using a weak adhesive when the guitar was not yet strung and tuned to pitch. For the glue, use a "high strength" cyano acrylate. A lot of the super glue formulations have been weakened to keep consumers from gluing their hand to their eye. Beal recommended using a brush applicator product from Stew Mac, but I went to the local Home Depot and got Loctite Super Glue Control Liquid with a precise tip. This stuff does bond fast, so you may want a second pair of hands to help. The repair seems to be permanent, so don't be too slow to get the trim positioned properly! A little glue goes a long way, and the excess will run out the side of the trim when you clamp it, so be ready with a tissue or piece of paper towel in case you put too much glue in there. Here's the product I used. Loctite at Lowe\'s
