Location: Lebanon, TN | Okay so I had a revelation today.
I have used Planet Wave locking straps for years and have many of them. Having purchased TJ's lovely Gibson Songwriter I wanted a neck based strap button and thought okay I will shell out for a Dunlop Straplok set as I have never tried them on any of my guitars and I found a beautiful Levy's strap I wanted to use on it.
So when I open the pack and unpop the mechanism I see the button and go "Crikey, that looks familiar". I take the pop button mechanism and try it on one of my Ovation standard buttons and b**ger me if it doesnt fit. I have owned these guitars for so many years not knowing that in (what appears to be) recent years the strap buttons are Dunlops or Dunlop compatible.
So question...when were they added as factory standard on the USA produced guitars? My earliest is my Collectors 1994, but the celebrity I bought my daughter 6 years ago does not have them. I imagine they are standard onlu on the USA models.

Location: Marlton, NJ | As an add-on question to Stuarts - if you buy a brand new, Made in the USA Ovation, does it come with the strap end of the strap lock?? Or is the a HUGE pile of these things sitting in the factory somewhere? |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Other than the ring feature on the front of the OFC-I, I have Dunlop strap buttons on every Ovation and Adamas I own. I can't remember if the 1981 Legend Ltd came with them from the factory or whether I added them later. I'm also not sure how all the vintage solid-bodies got them, but they're installed on these models as well. |

Location: Lebanon, TN | Yeah that's what I see on my pre 1994 models. the 1990, 1986 and 1984 collectors all have the smaller buttons with the screwheads showing. Might be Dunlops but not Straplok compatible |

Location: Brisbane Australia | The Solid bodies didn't have them as far as I know, well none of mine do at least.
I would imagine a VXT does.
Celebrities don't have them.
I have put the Schaller type on several electrics but I prefer the Dunlop ones.

Location: SoCal | I've got 'em on everything. It's not that I like the part that fits on the strap. I don't even use those. I just like the bigger buttons. I feel very secure with them.... |

Location: Lebanon, TN | On a related note the strap end connectors as supplied on mine seemed pretty gritty so 'rough' to snap in. couple of drops of "Gun Butter" seems to have fixed that! :-) |

Location: 6 String Ranch | I forget when but it was back quite a while. All USA production switched. We bought the knobs from Dunlop without the strap part. All you got to do is have that part and any of them will work. None of the imports had them. |

One of the great priviliges I get being a Brit who is now Permanent Resident here in the US is the "Second Ammendment". Accordingly I suffer from what is commonly known as double GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome and Gun Acquisition Syndrome)
Firearms dry out so there are many and various lubricants around to aid with their mechanics. Gun Butter is one such fine brand more of which you can find out here Gun Butter
I like that it has fine control nozzles so you dont apply too much and is red colored so shows up a little easier on what are typically blued or black metal surfaces. |
