craigslist post (in case it gets deleted!):

Dave Barry on the Economic Stimulus Payment

"This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format:

"Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
"A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

"Q. Where will the government get this money?
"A. From taxpayers.

"Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
"A. Only a smidgen.

"Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
"A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

"Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
"A. Shut up."

My Mom gets No E.S.P. money cuz she is my Dependant...
So my $300... I'm just gonna send it to her.
(I don't believe that I get the $600 cuz she is not a Dependant CHILD! If I get six, she gets six!)

What is SHE gonna spend her "Stimulus" money on?
Food, Gasoline and Propane!

Its actually worse than that.

The taxpayers aren't paying for these checks. The government is spending borrowed money.

Which means we are spending money borrowed from the Chinese and OPEC in order to purchase consumer goods made in China, all to be ultimately paid for by our grandchildren.

I know that what i will write is rude but...
i really love weak dollar. 2 years ago i couldn't think about owning US made guitar.
1 year ago i couldn't think about owning US made guitar without going into debt.
this year i got GAS and i bought one, and i know that i'll buy another.

when dollar - zloty exchange rate will be on 1,5 zl for 1 dollar i will buy a guitar every 2 months.
(now it's 2,2 zl for 1 dollar )

LBJ, not rude at all, just factual. Some of us here also like some of the results of the weak dollar, like increased exports and hopefully decreased imports. The 300% increase in gasoline is not so good, but there are some good things about a shift in currency strength.

Odd difference between the US and Poland is the fact that the USA has 2/3 of the planets oil.......YEp, the Middle East is sitting on about 1/4 and the rest is spread around. We have more of it and have more pumps and refineries than anyone but we let OPEC set the prices. Poland and many Euro Nations have to depend on the market for price, because you do not have the natural resources we do. At least you guy's are honestly paying what the market will bear. We are paying thie new prices because our own companies are just F-in greedy. Why does it only cost about $1 per gallon in most of the middle east nations?
Anyway economics and politics go hand in hand and this is certainly very close to a political post. Sorry Miles.

Ok, Miles is going to shut this down, but if you want the real culprit in this, go to Washington D.C. Politicians won't allow new drilling or building of nuclear power plants, then complain to oil executives that their companies are making too much money and being responsible to the shareholders. Believe me, oil companies would love to locate and produce oil locally. Power companies would love to build nuclear power plants. But they can't because the politicians in D.C. won't let them. If you want to know why, look to the lobbies and the money they provide.

A huge oil discovery has been made in Brazil that's supposed to be bigger than the fields in the Middle East. I'd be more than happy to have my money going there than to terrorists in the Middle East. D.C. politicians don't seem to understand that by not drilling here, they are perpetuating the problem there.

It's stupid to blame oil companies for doing what they are supposed to do.

Ok Miles. Shut 'er down!

Northcountry: wrong. proven resources of oil in USA are max. 44 billions barrels of oil, with about 20 bln barrels not confirmed.
Your country uses about 8-9 billions barrels of oil per year, so all of your resources would last for 5-6 years.

edit: verified info.

Originally, when oil was cheap(er) it was decided that we should cap all them wells in TX and off the coasts of CA and FL and import the oil.
Use up their cheap oil now, save ours for later.

But it is kinda like going to the moon... (say what  )
Just because we went to the moon in 1969, doesn't mean we can just hop there Now!

Just because we Know the oil is out there, and under Kansas, doesn't mean we can just go get it. That takes an economic investment which will take money outta all them corpor-Rats bank accounts.

Nuclear power provides 80% of France's power, and it could supply 80% of ours, with hydro, solar and wind supplying the rest. But that would take an investment that the Rich Folks don't wanna make! They want a tax break to go look for alternative energy sources. Dude! You're an Energy Company! You will look for energy source anyway, cuz that is what you do. So why do I have to subsidize you looking for ways to take more of My Money?

There was a time when if you had a company, and made enough money to pay your bills, pay your employees, restock your supply, and made 2% profit... You were happy!

Now when they say a company only made 600 Billion profit, they aren't happy! They expect to make 150% profit on everything!

So what does this have to do with Guitars? It has to do with how much disposable income Americans will have now that they have exported all our jobs, squandered all our country's wealth while putting that money in the corpo-Rats pockets, while the regular folks are trying to decide if the should buy food, or gas to get to work?

i think high gas prices will change all yout culture.
at the end, you will have to replace cars with big engines (over 3 litres) with smaller cars and diesels.
it's just not very logical to drive car which has fuel usage of 15-20 litres per 100 km when you can ride euqally comfortable car taking 7-8 litres per 100 km.

LBJ..
But you see the problem here.
You guys use liters and since those are more than a gallon, your useage is already higher than us before you even turn the key.

(sorry... just practicing for the day I might want to post on a political board)
