Joined: March 2005 Posts: 5567 Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | My get together with Tim turned out to be a combination visit: Jam, GAS builder, and Adamas Adoption. I came home with a guitar I had been wanting for a long time: A 1983 1188-7 Adamas I 12 string. Also, as I posted last week, I fell in love with Tim's OFC II and ordered one the following Monday from Al. I had planned to post this earlier but this seemed like a good day with all of the other Adamas relocation stories. The weather was bad so I couldn't take pic's outside until late this afternoon. This is a wonderful 12 String Boomer and originally came to Tim by way of Mike (Fugot)...That alone sums up the condition of the guitar...it is near mint/very clean. For an Adamas 12, it is extremely light: probably because it has no electronics...I first saw this when Tim and I held out 12 String Thing last year. So, we were able to come to an agreement and here 'tis...among other features it has the infamous signature of a former gas station guy, glossed bridge, and extreamly nice brown case. There is nothing like these Adamas I 12's IMHO! Hee are some pic's and the link to the album on my ning site (Hint: click on a picture in the album for a giant size of same). 1188-7 1983 OK, thats all for today/this week/this month/this...well

MM really fell in love with this last year and we've been trying to work out a deal every since. I will NEVER have the ability to make this sing like MM does and I really enjoy listening to him on a 12 string. Not to hijack the thread but I will most likely also move the 1187-247 #9 over to the For Sale section soon since it's not getting played too much with the two OFC guitars in the house. So if you or someone you know is looking for a 47RI, have them drop me a PM. T'n'T

I can hear a difference between #47RI and OFC I. Basically the same guitar but to my ears the #47RI is more crisp. My theory is that pickup and/or electronics modify the sound slightly. Karl

The OFC I has more bass but the 1688 has so much more projection. Although it could also be differences in the strings or my method of playing. I think the electronics in the body definitely block some of the tremble side.

The 1188 does have slightly less volume but we're taking degrees here and not many degrees at that. As far as tone, the 1688 has a slightly more pronounced bass and is so balanced over the spectrum...the 1188 sings sweetly and has a bit more pronounced treble end of the spectrum to my ear...While both are world class 12 strings, the wife gave the nod to the 1688...I'll remain unbiased as both are awesome in theit own ways...The 1188 is definitly the lighter of the two guitars if that is a factor some are intrested in...Do the electronics block the sound...I don't think they do...I think the added mass/weight contributes to the tone, not detracts from it.
