Location: Chestertown, MD | Hi,
I have an '80 Viper, and just, finally, picked up a UKII.
For those of you familiar, I've noticed that both guitars seem to have a "hump" in the fretboard around 13 or 14.
W/ the Viper, I suppose it's not as big a deal, being a straight-up bolt-on, but has anyone had this experience w/ the UKII? I'd think this would be a slightly larger kettle of fish.
Any advice is appreciated.

The Viper, particularly on strings 5 and 4, the UK pretty much across the neck, both @ fret 13/14. They both seems better on the higher frets, say around 16/17, but still not clear.
The Viper: I found by playing, but after a set up, it was still there.
The UK: my repair guy found by eye, though that one has a bit of a bow, as well.
I wondering if stringing .11-.50 is part of the problem.
Any thoughts are welcome. |

To replace the Pan Head Oval Machine screws I had to purchase some Stainless Steel units that were about 1/4" longer than needed. This meant that I'd have to shorten each one and chase the threads.
If you install a neck screw that is too long it will push the fretboard out and the 18th fret will rise. Also note they put Carbon fibre stiffeners in the butt end of the neck and this may cause a warpage or bulge.
Shorten the screws and tap the frets back in. |
