It MIGHT come to this. I live on a disability income and have my daughter's wedding to pay for this year. This guitar was held by the Ovation rep for 5 years before he released it to the store where I got it a few months back. It's in nearly untouched condition. I may have to sell it to help pay for the wedding... knowing I'll keep 5 - 600 dollars of the money to replace it with a used Ovation. Since these really haven't come onto the secondary market yet, I'm at a loss as to valuing it. The hang tag had a $2,895 list price on it. Can anyone suggest a reasonable selling price for me?

One more thing - it's serial number three.

I sold mine to an OFC'r for $750 back in '09. (It was #006)
I have seen them sell for less and for more.
I have seen them on eBay for a thousand, but not recently.

That wasn't much help, huh?

Not much help at all. I'm thinking more like a minimum of $1,600. It's entirely worth it - I couldn't replace it with a guitar even remotely comparable for that amount. Man, why such a devaluation on O's?

A reasonable price...I cannot offer that, but you can only get what the market allows you to...unless you find that one guy that REALLY wants it....but...

I think the last of the new ones went for around a grand...

These guitars were commissioned in 2006 and I think Nick grabbed the last or one of the last new ones available recently. There may have been extenuating circumstances, but it appears to me that it took 5 years to sell a few guitars. That would suggest that the demand was not all that great for the supply (around 45).

And I am not sure why. It is a tremendous guitar.

Personally speaking, you will be hard pressed to replace that guitar in terms of pure acoustic sound with another Ovation. Especially in the 600.oo range and if the metrics of what I have written in the first paragraph are consistent with the secondary market, you might only be pocketing a couple hundred bucks in the exchange.

Additionally the guitar market is a buyers market right now.

Good luck with a tough decision.

If it sells for $750 like OMA's and you keep $600 for a replacement guitar, that leaves just enough wedding money for some Skittles, tap water, and a few Thank You notes. Sounds fun.

Sorry to hear that your situation may force the sale and I agree it's worth every bit of $1600.00 but my mantra has always been buy high/sell low. :) For what ever reason the K1111 reissue was not successful in the market place and the factory sold them at a loss. I gave well under a grand for mine, new with warranty. Good luck.

No question I'll be keeping it then. I can't fathom such an iconic guitar failing as a re-issue. The sound/fit/finish of this instrument is as good as it gets. I've heard comments about the less than stellar marketing being done by Ovation and this guitar solidly proves that concept. I'd be heartbroken to part with it, but I love my daughter more and want her to have a special day. I may try posting it for $1600 and see if that person who really wants it is out there. I wouldn't take a penny less. I was at GC recently and didn't see another acoustic I'd trade this one even for. Maybe the Universe intended this guitar to be mine.

Dave,
When you think about it, is it that surprising? Earlier you posted that you traded even for two instruments you had a total of $370 invested in. That should have given you some indication of the guitar's value in the marketplace, or at least to the person you dealt with.

Perhaps the universe did intend for you to keep it. ;) I sure plan on keeping mine.

You're totally correct - I hadn't looked at it that way til now. I just thought I was dealing with a guy who didn't have a clue and who needed a 12 string in his inventory. I just am compelled to repeat how amazed I am that such a fine quality guitar has so little perceived value in the marketplace. If I were elected President I would proclaim USA made Ovations to be the official state guitar and would further mandate every group with two or more guitarists have one playing an Ovation. I've always loved fantasizing - keeps my brain flexible.

Like Nick, when I purchase my K1111 I paid well under a grand for guitar, hsc and free shipping. I don't believe you would be able to get what you would need out of it. I don't believe I would ever want to sell mine as I believe it to be the best sounding O I have ever heard! Good luck.

Not being critical at all but can I see if I have this straight? You traded (some obviously unsuspecting maroon) two guitars worth less than $400 total for one that now you expect to get no less than $1,600 for and, if you can't get that, you'll keep it because the guitar is certainly worth more than, oh, I don't know, your daughter's wedding?

Would that be right...?
