After picking up the fab 1114 folklore I realized thru some research on the site that prior to 1978 the guitar as well as its classic string model both came with machines sporting the plastic machine rods. I am looking for a decent set of folklore machines with the steel pegs. Anyone got some hanging about taking up space and collecting dust?

I assume you mean Lost Art Vintage. That sounds like a good project for my 77 Folklore. The plastic rods are a pain to keep the steel strings from slipping.

You can peel off the plastic cover with an exacto knife to expose the brass tuning rod underneath. This however is knurled to keep the plastic from slipping around the rod, probably a string-breaker situation.
I opted for the replacements (with open gears) from Stewmac, made by Schaller. They are a perfect fit, EXCEPT the screwholes in the plate don't line up with the originals. Plug the holes, drill new ones, everything is covered by the plate (no scars showing).
Looks very tidy. A nice finishing touch for a former beater ('76 Folklore).
